Made a special trip out here back in late November: hands down this made it worth the trip! Loved the steak pie & mash at G Kelly, would definitely come back someday! This being our first pie & mash experience, the crew at the counter were nice enough to show us around the menu and the what's what. Had to get the obligatory side of jellied eels as well! Steak pie was freshly baked, crusty with a good beef filling. Mash was nice and firm and went well with the liquor vinegar available as well if you'd like to jazz it up. All in all was a good and cheap meal, a true London experience. Greetings from Queens, NY! Do you deliver?? ;D
Love it! Have walked past lots of times so finally stopped by for lunch, and did not regret it. Really delicious pie and mash for an affordable price. Amazing vegan pie and the apple crumble is super yummy and vegan! too. Can’t wait to drop by again.
My first pie and mash experience, and I wasn’t disappointed. Friendly staff, cosy environment and inexpensive no frill traditional food. I even tried their jelly eel and I found it pretty good. I gave them 4 stars as I would have loved if they had assortment of pies. I know places in London that sell lamb and chicken pies. It’s a great place to eat in though.
Wonderful pie and mash; the liquor parsley sauce complemented the pie and mash really well! Apple crumble was warm, and the acidity from the apples made it not too sweet; paired with the ice cream, it was really delectable definitely a must try
Good old East End pie and mash shop. Not many of these around anymore and this one on Roman Road was fantastic. They do both meat and vegan pies. Pies yummy, mash yummy, liquor yummy. Pricing is also pretty reasonable. As with all proper pie and mash shops, seating is quite tight, but it all adds to the experience!
The pies had an awesome crust but the the beef filling was below average - the veg filling was okay. The potato mash was okay. The apple crumble with ice cream was delicious. The service was really good. Worth a try of you're on the area.
My friends and I had a great time at G Kelly - the pies were basic but tasty and very well priced. The crumble was good too. Although the shop was quite busy on a sunday lunchtime the staff were all really friendly. The lady behind the counter gave great advice and helped me pluck up the courage to try the jellied eels!
My 1st visit today with my friend Sophie. Food was delicious and brought back some wonderful memories of pie and mash as kid in Stratford and Plaistow.
My first experience of pie and mash and I thoroughly enjoyed. Vegan poe and mash, with liquor, and coffee all for £5.50. Great meal.
Stopped by before the West Ham Everton game the other week. My Step Dad is from Bermondsey and is die hard Manze’s but he’d heard of Kelly’s and spoke highly of it so my expectations were high. I have to say I was not disappointed. Overall my favourite thing about this place is that they’ve managed to maintain the original vibe and the decor whilst bringing it up to speed with modern standards slick queuing system, card payments, clean and tidy tables with minimal design. When it comes to the food you can’t go wrong. Quality of the pies is second to none, beautifully crispy pastry and tasty filling. Mash bang on, liquor tasty and great colour. Makes me happy to see such an old school establishment still thriving. We got the win against Everton and Frank Lampard got sacked thereafter so it really was a perfect day.
