Poor cleaning and managment this place needs to be close down for health and safety , hygiene reasons. Steam-rooms always smell of fish and no cleaning on daily basis in changing rooms.
Great layout, choice of equipment and classes. However there are always children’s swimming lessons between 3:30-4:30 which is when I go to the gym, so going in the pool is not an option. And the cleaning stations never have any cleaning spray in them. Meaning no one cleans down their equipment which is absolutely disgusting. Will be cancelling my membership once my year is up, which is a shame because it’s an ideal location for me and the facilities are great. But are just not well maintained.

The majority of the treadmills are broken at gym etc Gateshead. I found one treadmill that was free and kind of worked but it rocked when I ran on it. I had to get off as I would have hurt my ankles . The gym is full of teenagers messing around. Often teenagers will walk into people who are lifting weights. Most of the lockers don't actually lock as they have chunks of wood missing. If you come here, make sure you bring Earphones for your own music because the music playing here is terrible. I heard chaz and Dave playing one day
I have been a member for approx 4 years. And I can honestly say. The gym and pool area are run very professionally by Mel. Karen. And Nathen. Also the staff I carnt put names to. ‍‍
Nice little place a had a little swim the jacuzzi was really nice and the multiplied steam and sauna rooms was nice to have variety of things
By far the best gym in gateshead , the steam, sauna and hot tub , second to none in gateshead gyms , really good gym upstairs , all equipped, and then mel , part of the tuesday club
2 very friendly staff there at gateshead Nathan and Mel, always a pleasure to see them make you feel very welcome Place would be no good without them
Really gone down hill now. Air con hasn't worked for years and blows warm air making it unpleasant to train. Changing rooms absolutely filthy, rarely cleaned and litter everywhere. Many lockers broken. Sauna and Steam rooms are repulsive, people shaving and spitting in there. Jacuzzi full of bits and grit at bottom. Weights just left everywhere and equipment really dusty, dirty and often broken. Staff sit at reception all on phones when could be cleaning etc, easy money for them just sat there. Gym very over crowded, and clientele not interested in working out and will just sit on a phone on a machine when you want to use it. Used to be so clean and well kept with good customer service now lost its identity
Unfortunately this gym is just old and tired as is most of the equipment and facilities. The lockers are all stiff and rusted which results in you struggling to get in and out of them. Many of the machines albeit you get 1 of each type of weight machine are also old and clearly need servicing, the cables are stiff and often they break and are not fixed often. Staff seem lovely but have rarely seen them anywhere but behind the desk. This means often things aren’t tidied away by members and staff will not challenge this or even organise things as they should - you’ll spend a while trying to find dumbbells as they are in no order. The gym is good for cardio but other than that it’s very poor, particularly for the price you pay compared to many others in the area. Happy to take an extra fee once a year but not using it to invest in the gym. The pool area is also nice however recently the gym seems to be promoting it to many young teenagers under 16 who come after school and work out in groups on machines hogging them and mess around in the pool with no consideration for members doing laps. Again staff not present in dealing with this. The sauna is one of the best parts however for the last week has been luke warm at best and one of the steam rooms seems to not be functioning as it should. Lastly the changing rooms are also poorly maintained with massive puddles of water with no one mopping or sweeping away and the dust and hair in the showers. I would seriously consider not coming here for the cost and wish I was not in a contract as it seems they don’t maintain or look after this which is a shame as clearly this gym has potential and was probably great in its time but neglect, poor etiquette from members, lack of staff presence and time have aged this gym and I can see it closing in the near future unless issues are addressed
