Fountain Garden

I don't really know what to say here. This is, sincerely, amongst the very best food I have ever eaten! As soon as I got out of the car I was hit with an otherworldly aroma of the most savoury, spicy, caramelised goodness. I don't even know what it was. It was SOMETHING ELSE. Quite a wait for food, a fair few comments mentioning this, the phone constantly ringing, it was almost chaotic, they were knocking food out rapidly but clearly the popularity of the place is on a different level. And for good reason. Seriously, every single Chinese takeaway NEEDS to come and eat this food. This should be the benchmark. I have tried and enjoy MANY of them on the south side but not one comes even close to the flavours that are being concocted at Fountain Garden. It's just... beyond. Spicy BBQ ribs with black bean sauce and peppers. Deeply rich and moreish. Special Curry, chock with roast pork, the softest chicken, at least 6 massive king prawns and button mushrooms, and a curry sauce that actually has depth of flavour and a non-stodgy consistency. A succulent chicken with pineapple and ginger dish, served in a superb sweet and sour sauce, it was utterly delightful. I want to eat everything on the menu. I'll be sure to order as early in the night as possible! Haha. Also, the lovely lad gave me some chocolate covered biscuits to take home for the kids because he'd ran out of fortune cookies. Nice touch!

Service and shop are great. The food was diabolical and well overpriced tbh. The won tons were far too thick, rice was mushy, the chicken tasted cheap and the 'famed' salt and pepper chips were far too peppery. I expected much better for that price. The staff are very friendly and the shop itself is beautiful, but ultimately it's the food that matters.

Best Chinese in Sunderland and possibly the whole of Tyne and Wear. Collection only and cash only, ring early doors as gets extremely busy on a weekend. People travel from as far as South Tyneside, Gateshead and Durham for takeaway from there which speaks volumes for how good the scran is.

Its difficult to write a review for this place because it has so many positives but a number of reasons that strongly let it down. The food itself is outstanding in terms of quality, taste and portion size. However the thing that lets this place down is the waiting time. I waited 1 hour 20 minutes for a collection and then a further 40 minutes in the shop from the collection time. Don't fancy spending my Saturday night sat in a takeaway tbh and they don't offer delivery so you have no choice.

First time trying out this place, travelled from Newcastle, well worth the wait. Food was delicious and excellent customer service. Would use again

honestly so disappointed, after reading the reviews me and my partner decided to try it out, however our order was wrong, and we had to pay for their mistakes, no discount or anything, had to actually drive back and basically reorder what they messed up and pay in full, then by the time we do that because the shop was rammed, we get home and our other food is now cold. Not happy that I had to drive there and back twice with the price of bloody diesel atm. Not to mention the chicken batter was powdery and my noodles were hard. So disappointed in the food and the service, man on the phone was polite but making customers pay for what the shop messed up just isn’t on? will defo not be going again

This is my best Chinese takeaway. Love the Salt n Chilli Ribs. Won't go anywhere else from now on. Always busy, which is a good sign. Visited again as the last time was really nice, but unfortunately...this time wasn't that good. All the salt n chilli ribs were fatty & couldn't eat them& the chips were really dry. Maybe miss out Thursdays. Try again next week On busy times when you ring to order, if your given a time slot say, 8pm...add another 30,45 mins on top of that as it's that busy. Apart from that it's still a really tasty Chinese.

BEST Chinese in Sunderland by far! We drive from Durham every week because every other Chinese takeaway doesn’t compare. 1000% worth the wait for the salt and pepper chips alone. Everything I’ve tried so far is amazing & owners are so friendly cannot recommend enough!

Best Chinese in the North East, extremely busy so if you are hungry order an hour or two hours before!!
