A really great lunchtime stop - with food that's just good rather than 'a good vegetarian place'. It's always fairly busy, so I've never grabbed a table but the food's delicious. After moving from Brighton to London this always reminded reminded me if Brighton with its delicious made-from-scratch vegetarian food. Really homely, really nice, with a communal cafe feel served by cheerful individuals. One of my favourite places. Super fond of here.
Food for thought is not a place to go if you want a leisurely and spacious meal, but man is it great food, in a great location, with great people. This hole in the wall restaurant keeps on reinventing how to cook lentils, surprising even the most experienced vegetarians. The portions are huge, filling and delicious, and although you will have to queue and wait for a table it's definitely worth it. Get there early if you can. And this is a great place to take meat eater friends - they never complain at the end. And their scones are devine.
I tried the aubergine and olive stew with rice and green lentil soup, though I believe the menu changes based on what they cook each day. Both dishes didn't look particularly appetizing, but tasted surprisingly delicious! Even the slab of bread served with the soup was so good you could eat it alone. For about £15 for 2 mains and the soup this place is really not bad at all!
Ohmigosh, simply the best. I love love love Food for Thought, and would eat there everyday if it were closer. Their food is simple but delicious vegetarian fare. Up to you what to order: the hot dishes are heartwarming and filling, the salads are tasty and fresh, and the desserts ... well, do not miss the desserts. The best vegetarian London cafe hands down.
Inexpensive, delicious vegetarian food. Vegan options are clearly labelled and the menu changes often so you can go back and have something different every time. The tables are shared and you sit wherever you like which makes the atmosphere friendly and informal. Definitely worth a visit, regardless of whether you are a vegetarian, vegan or meat eater.
I love this place, have been coming back for years for the plates piled high with hearty stews and flavoursome curries. I seldom have room for pudding, but if you do you've got to try the scrunch at least once. I recommend sharing a portion though! This is a place I adore bringing friends and family too, but am also just happy to sit on my own or make conversation with those sharing a table, so that says a lot for the atmosphere.
I'm quite a fanatic of meat, so for me to say that a vegetarian restaurant is excellent and worth going out of your way for is unusual to say the least. This place is fantastic. Cheap and cheerful, in a basement, with food that doesn't look amazing but tastes sooooo good! Whats more I come away feeling distinctly healthier. Can't recommend it strongly enough.
Don't get me wrong - I adore this place, I'm a long term veggie and I've been coming here for years. Probably nothing will stop me continuing to eat here - but I think they need to up their game a little, and it's because I care about the place that it makes me mad! The problem is partly its popularity, but I do think more could be done to supply demand. Not for the first time, I turned up last night at 18:50 to find they'd sold out of all three main dishes: there was still the usual staples of quiche and salad available, but at ten to seven in an establishment that advertises itself as being open until 20:30, I felt this was pushing the boundaries of acceptable. I didn't feel comfortable asking whether this was for any exceptional reason: staff are generally rather unapologetic. Perhaps I am enormously demanding, but I do think that having a full complement of dishes up to an hour before closing time is sort of a basic requirement. I love the food here, it's great value and particularly awesome to get that in the West End. They are most probably a victim of their own success, but as a loyal customer I think more could be done to keep people like me happy - and perhaps to adapt if demand increases. As a veggie, I think you actually have to go above and beyond good service to convince others that vegetarianism is a good thing, and I feel that FFF is letting the side down a little with this general attitude. I also think they need to move with the times and start accepting credit cards. The rest can stay in the 70s and it will still work!
Food For Thought is the best vegetarian place I've ever tried. I am normally a meat lover, and vegetarian meals usually leaves me hungry. Once I ate at a different vegetarian place and I had to go around the corner and get a hamburger afterwards. Food for Thought is different. Their foods are hearty and flavourful! I usually get the lunch time quiche and salad special. Only £5.50! And their berry granolla crumble is not to be missed! a bit pricey at £4.50 but well worth it for a splurge!
If you're ever in the Covent Garden area around lunchtime, this is by far the tastiest, most wholesome food you can get. I cant think of many places in London that you can eat vegetarian food this good. Its not cheap, but you can tell all the ingredients are quality and cooked with love.. You definitely have avoid the lunchtime peak if you want a table, as this place is tiny!
