I am an atypical piano student – starting as a complete beginner when I retired. I have a weekly lesson and with regular practice I have made steady progress. Fiona is an encouraging teacher as well as being a fine musician. Lessons are a real pleasure as well helping me to develop my skills. Fiona is keen to encourage good technique which I think is particularly important for beginners to avoid getting into poor habits.nIt was not my intention to bother with taking music exams, but I decided that it would be interesting to do this and I have just passed grade 1 with a merit mark. Fiona was meticulous in preparing me for the exam - as a somewhat nervous student this was invaluable.nIf you think are considering having lessons but worry that you have left it too late you haven't !
Fiona Dowty is the perfect piano teacher for me! I'm an adult learner, currently working towards my grade 3.nFiona coached me through my Grade 2 where I was a bag of nerves, having not attended any sort of exam for over 20 years, and still managed a distinction! Her attention to detail is amazing but I never feel pressured due to her incredible patience, particularly when I've had a crazy week and not managed to practice as much as I would like.nI leave every lesson feeling motivated and like I've achieved something. I highly recommend Fiona!
I have been taking flute lessons with Fiona for around 3 years now, from beginner level. Fiona is infinitely patient, knowledgeable and a skilled teacher. She has been incredibly encouraging to me as an adult learner, and as I'm learning for fun, she's been very adaptable and supportive in helping me find interesting and enjoyable pieces to play. I'd recommend her to anyone.
