I cannot agree with Jason's review. I had a quarter crispy duck with pancakes and it was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed drinking a whole pot of Chinese tea with it. I chose this unassuming little place because it was friendly and calm. There was crowds and chaos outside at 17.30 on a Saturday evening. I didn't need to wait and they showed me to a table for 4 people even though I was eating alone. Inside the staff were so lovely and friendly. I would definitely go back.
Had a very different experience from a lot of the reviews. This was one of the few places open before noon. Love the Chinese breakfast menu options which are rare in Chinatown. The soup and dry noodles we ordered were delicious and all 3 staff members we interacted with were friendly. Prices are on par with central London prices. Would definitely go back.
First and last time that I will ever come to this place! Worse service I've ever experienced, rude waiters, over priced. Stay away from this place! £5.80 for chicken and sweetcorn soup, £13.80 for a quarter duck that doesn't even look like a quarter. £12 for fried beef noodle. No taste! An embassment to Chinese food in the heart of China Town. A first time cook could do a better job especially when they use a microwave to heat the food. Can you imagine that they threatened to charge extra to split payment. Disgraceful!!!
Tasty Mutton soup with limited variety of ingredients. House special pan fried noodles was good. Portion size was small.
Partner and I came here on two consecutive mornings for breakfast. As a British Born Chinese I am quite pleased that this was something similar to what I had in HK when I was young. Autheticity I can’t vouch for but it’s probably the best comfort food I can find that doesn’t break the bank. First brekkie we had rice porridge with fried doughnut to eat with the rice porridge ofc and pickled mustard. I think the tea that offer is the sachet one so pretty much what you can purchase in boxes of 5-10 from the small grocery stores around chinatown this is mixture of milk tea and coffee so opt for the brand 3:15PM Second morning we opted for the ho fun soups with pan fried dumpling to share which we realised we were meant to order the baos instead ‍. Overall this is now on our list of places to enjoy simple comfort food without breaking our banks but filling our bellies.
Not sure why the other reviews are so terrible; I see this place is super hardworking they are open from 9am-3am til 5am on some days. I just came out to get away from the rain a bit during lunchtime, ordered Shrimp-JiuCai Wonton and Soy Milk. No sugar in it so you add as much as you need. The waitresses are just polite enough to ask you what you need, and the food comes very fast as expected of a real Chinese restaurant. The wonton was very delicious. It has more ingredients than the traditional wonton in Hong Kong sometimes which is a bonus, absolutely. The skin of the wonton was also very soft and you can tell by the details the skin‘s texture has added some more fibre of some sort, making it softer. For quick eats, really good!! Recommended.
Awful establishment. A large group of us went in and spent well over £200. We ordered a variety of dishes and they brought us out a beef in black bean sauce, which they made out was complimentary, however, the owner came after we’d eaten and demanded we pay for it. We refused and he starting shouting at us, in a restaurant full of other customers. They then also forgot to bring one of our groups mains out, we asked where it was and they claimed it had already come out. The owner then started screaming at us ‘white people are all the same, all liars’ and his wife came over and started shouting at him… over the table whilst we were trying to eat. Food was not terrible, but certainly seemed overpriced. EDITED SINCE THEIR RESPONSE: they are absolute liars, they charged us £5 for 2 bowls of prawn crackers. I have attached the receipt for proof. The man in the red coat said he was the owner and the fact you have not denied it happened shows that it did. CCTV has no audio, but if it did, you will hear him shout that at us. "White people all the same, British people all the same, all liars" Edited since their response: I already said it was complimentary, but that weird bloke in the red jacket tried to make us pay for it and started screaming at us looks like your ability to read reviews is as poor as your food prep judging by the amount of people with food poisoning
I don't know what people are complaining about. We went to this restaurant with my family yesterday and it was lovely. The food was fantastic and the service was great. The braised beef dry noodles were amazing, the soy milk was delicious and the dumplings were also good which they allowed us to take away with no fuss. Not sure why there's such a discrepancy with other reviewers. We eat a lot of Chinese food, and this was up there in terms of authenticity and quality.
Came after a few drinks with friends so I could explore the dining scene in Chinatown for the first time, The food was delicious. Whilst the waitress did her best to accommodate one person, I couldn’t help but feel that the service was quite curt and dismissive at times. For example, when I tried to order the chicken as a starter, I was told that ‘it’s cold’. Despite me explaining that it was fine, the disgruntled waiter insisted that he ‘come back when I know what you’re doing’, rather condescendingly. I was completely aware that it would be cold, yet fine. When my other dishes did come it was just slapped down in front of me. I’m not expecting a monologue but it just seemed quite blunt. Also, I said thank you and goodbye as I left, only for it to not be reciprocated by the staff. Considering that I spent £47 for satay chicken, Singapore fried noodles, prawn toast and dumplings, plus what I assume was service charge? I expected to be treated a little bit better. Seeing as a group of six next to me paid £200+ for food and left feeling discontent, I should have known what I was in for. As I said, the food was excellent, but a little courtesy will not go amiss!
Poor table service. The staff was extremely passive-aggressive and seemed unmotivated. Cash payments were required prior to meals because, according to the staff, the terminal wasn't operating. A miscommunication regarding our bill. The restaurant allegedly has a per-person sitting fee that they fail to disclose to customers. No receipt is given. They don't provide glasses with their drinks, so we had to ask for one and was given a plastic party cup. The location was lovely. The restaurant, though not very spacious, was nice. You might have to wait in line to enter, but you eventually find a seat. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. However, I don't think I'll return because of the staff and the hidden extra costs. Vegetarian options: Delicious vegetarian options are offered.
