I am never shopping at Esso or this Whickham garage again after their continued efforts to peddle 'free' copies of the hate filled, xenophobic, sexist, racist, rightwing Sun on all their unfortunate customers. Thoroughly disgusting.

An Esso petrol station and has a small shop attached. The pumps are always very clean and have disposable gloves available. It isn't always the cheapest petrol station but it is handy and the staff are always pleasant. It used to have a car wash attached but it doesn't seem to be working anymore.

Cheap fuel, free cash machine, well stocked shop and a MyHermes drop off point. 
Watch out as my main issue with this station is they don't have standard unleaded and diesel at every pump. Some pumps have unleaded and premium diesel (costing more) and others have diesel and premium unleaded and so on, they seem to be mixed up at random and not well labeled so you can quite easily end up putting expensive premium in by accident when you just wanted their standard fuel that's advertised.
