Absolutely shambolic customer service and workmanship. The RSJ has been put in the wrong place so one of the doors from the 4 rooms is out of place and doesnt match because it had to be alot smaller than the other 3 doors. The work was supposed to be completed in 8 weeks. It took 20+ weeks. Another team had be called in to pull up the floorboards in the two bedrooms and reset them so they were actually lying flat. The Juliette balcony and the work around it had to be redone. A few weeks into the work, on a day when their joiner - Jason, couldn't be bothered to turn up, we had rainwater coming through into my rear bedroom below. After calling Jason and texting him, I got a reply from him saying don't worry, it's nothing. The ceiling in both rear bedrooms below were damaged from this leak. The ceilings in my rear two bedrooms below were damaged to the extent that They need re-plastering and econoloft have yet to make good on the damage, two years on! They sent a plasterer round to get an estimate of the damage, after promising several times that they would sort it out. When they were given the cost to re-plaster the ceilings, they decided that I should sort it out myself with Jason. Within 2 weeks of the loft conversion being completed, the ceilings started getting little blowouts. I took photos and emailed them, asking them to sort it out. I eventually received a reply, telling me that it's just a minor thing and that I should sort it out myself! They don't even deserve 1 star but Google reviews don't give you an option of awarding zero stars... Don't use them!

Despite advertising themselves as "Nationwide" they are not. Do not be fooled.

Econoloft are, as the name suggests, a budget loft conversion company. Yes, we now have a loft converted to an en-suite bedroom. Was it done within the stated time frame? No - just over 8 weeks. We were told 6-8. Did we essentially have to project manage the conversion? Yes We had a leak at 2am during a storm when the roof had been removed and the builders hadn't properly secured the tarpaulin. The result was water pouring down bedroom walls and through the light fixture by 4am. The next day, Econoloft wasn't overly concerned and later reimbursed us for the paint to redecorate. The same builders did such a poor job of the second fix joinery (balustrades, architrave etc) that it had to be ripped out and other joiners called in to redo it. One of them claimed that balustrades being out of square was "an optical illusion". Classic. The project manager was perfectly able but due to either Econoloft's greed or incompetence, he was also managing about 30 other conversions and was constantly juggling these projects to the extent that we ended up doing a lot of his job. We had a suspicion that this would be the case, given their turnover and low costs of conversion. Note that Econoloft does not employ any of their tradespeople and as they say, this helps keep their prices competitive. However, it also means that they take on trades without properly vetting them. Our "joiners" had only completed one loft conversion previously we discovered, and also had never fitted a balustrade. This meant we were guinea pigs. The admin side wasn't much better. We were asked on more than one occasion to pay the final sum to the joiners who had messed up their work (who we weren't meant to pay). We had to liaise directly with the trades as it was apparent that if left up to the office the conversion would have taken months. Basically I think it's pot luck on how good your trades are, and how much you want to be involved in the management process. I couldn't recommend Econoloft, but I understand why people (ourselves included) choose them. Their sales man was slick and they're cheap: caveat emptor.

We used Econoloft for a large loft conversion project we did back in 2012 (20ft wide dormer and new roof). Now we have lived in the space for a few years, I feel I can be reasonably objective about the service we received from them. The work took place some years ago and so I appreciate that some of their working practices may have changed, if you are considering using them I would confirm the areas I highlight are still the way they work, before reaching a decision. The main issue I had with Econoloft, was their lack of attention to detail in their contracts and their inability to control the contractors they used, when issues arose. To explain how Econoloft is (was) structured. If you chose to use them, your contract for planning ,design and building materials for your build is with Econoloft; however the building of your project is done by teams of sub-contractors. These sub-contractors are "jobbing" self employed builders, who have an agreed daily rate with Econoloft, however importantly, they are not Econoloft employees. The benefit to Econoloft in being structured in this way, is that with no building staff on the books, Econoloft do not pay wages (and importantly employers NI on wages), as it becomes the responsibility of the project owner (i.e. you) to pay the sub-contractors at their pre-negotiated rate. The benefit to the customer in doing it this way, is that invariably Econoloft quotes are less expensive than their competitors, because of the use of sub-contractors in this way. This process works fine, if you are prepared to project manage work more proactively and are comfortable managing payments to builders. I had run a building project at my house previously and so felt comfortable. Whilst the design and planning stage were fine, issues arose when there was a disagreement over the scope of works mid-way through the build. This was due to the basic nature of the contract and the "loose" interpretation that had been given to one element of the building work and the poor communication between the sales team and the building team. Whilst this was relatively inexpensive to resolve (I chose to bite the bullet and pay the extra, as it only amounted to around £600 or 1% of the build costs) I chose to resolve it, in order to get the work done, rather than for the whole project to grind to a halt, whilst we went through a legal process. This was mainly because we were living in the property during the build, and putting it simply - I wanted it done. It did however leave an "unsavoury" taste in the mouth. The build progressed and as the build neared completion, as is often the case, the sub-contractors started to to move to their next job. Whilst the main loft conversion work had been completed, the additional works (which we had wrangled over) dragged on. These were the additional works, and because the sub-contractor doing them had done so as an apparent "favour" to Econoloft management to resolve the issue we had had, was fitting them in around other work and so things slowed down Once almost completed Econoloft were let down by small details. The building control sign off highlighted lead flashing around the chimney breast that had been incorrectly fitted, it took almost a year and several calls and a visit to their offices before this was finally resolved The final drama, within 3 months of completion we had a flood. One of the concealed toilet cisterns that had been fitted started to leak, and caused a flood into the kitchen below; our original sub-contractor came to our immediate aid and stemmed the flow, explaining that it was a fault with the cistern - it had split. It eventually turned after much "to and fro" that the reason for the leak was that sub-contractor had made one of the plastic pipes "fit" by applying a heat gun to it during the original build - top bodging! In conclusion, Loft work good, additional work poor. Once all fixed our final build has worked well and is of reasonable quality, however if I were using Econoloft again (which I probably wouldn't) I'd watch them like a hawk!

Econoloft completed my loft conversion to high quality standard swifty. We had an appointment with our Econoloft rep who was very punctual and informative but not a 'pushy sales man.' The office kept us updated thought the first stages of the loft conversion and our head joiner Greg completed the work within the 4 weeks estimated. We are very happy with our end product and wouldn't hesitate to use Econoloft again when we move!
