Story

Lakeside Country Park is a country park just south of the town of Eastleigh in Hampshire. The park covers 60 acres and is home to the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway. The park is on the site of old gravel workings, with lakes formed from gravel pits. As well as the lakes themselves, the park boasts meadows and some young woodland. The park is bounded by the Eastleigh urban area to the north, the A335 road to the east, the boundary between Eastleigh and Southampton to the south, and Monks Brook to the west.Eastleigh Lakeside Railway|}A dual gauge / light railway was established in the park in 1992, originally as a temporary layout. A more permanent track was laid down in 1993, as the railway company was granted a three-year lease. Five years later, a longer lease was negotiated and construction began on the two stations, Eastleigh Parkway and Monks Brook. They were opened in 1999, although further work on the layout itself was carried out in 2000. A tunnel was added in 2003, and Eastleigh Parkway station was extended in 2005 with the addition of a café and shop.Water sports centreIn 2014 funding was approved towards the replacement of the current lakeside buildings with two new buildings with improved toilets and changing facilities, storage, offices and a multi-purpose function room. The estimated cost of the scheme is £2.5 million, of which £1 million had been allocated from the New Homes Bonus and £371,000 from the Eastleigh Local Area Committee. The new buildings were completed in late 2016.

This is our go to place at the weekend and during the school holidays. Plus they hold some brilliant events throughout the year. We usually get a return and stop off at the play area halfway. The play area is a decent size and is great for big and small kids two separate areas with plenty of room to move about. The cafe is lovely too and sells lovely full English breakfasts and the best cakes!! Plus there is a lovely outside area with picnic benches if the sun is shining and ice creams are on sale too. This railway is definitely worth a visit!
Have been down a few times over the last few months and it's great. There is a stop halfway with a park and walking routes. There is a wide range of trains there and the route is quite long and has a tunnel. Would recommend it as a day out
Lovely place to.come with family. We attended Halloween evening and it was lovely ride. Magic show was a bit of hit and miss but kids loved it. Huge thank you to all staff who where around a whole train track to add an extra spooky! Thank youVisited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 min
Took my 2 year old granddaughter who squealed with delight on seeing the engine. Bought a return ticket and she spotted the play ground at the end of the line which she enjoyed. She loved the tunnel on the return journey. Liked the shop. Cafe was OK but didn't seem to cater that well for younger children.
Great morning/ afternoon out. The railway station and stream trains were brilliant, great for kids and the perfect length. Return cost £4 for adults. Stops in the middle of a park and a picnic area next to the lakes. Beautiful walks around the lakes. The cafe looked nice but the food and coffee wasn’t great especially for the price. Definitely bringing a picnic next time.

What a fantastic miniature railway! So much better & bigger than expected. We’ll worth a visit!
Lovely family ride on the train which is a miniature steam railway including a tunnel. We took a ride 1st class & halfway you can stop to go on the playground. Then you go through a long tunnel & the kids love it. The views on the train are breathtaking looking across Lakeside lakes. Very well run everyone dressed up for the kids & very cheap. Well worth a visit!!!
This is a beautiful park, with well signed walks, a nature reserve, a lake, a little steam train, a play park and a café. For dogs there are different areas which are either green off lead, amber on lead or red dogs not allowed. Plenty of wildlife to see and the parking is free! Great all round place.
