No longer a gay bar. Just like the rest of the scene, straight couples and groups of women now frequent this bar. Women even go downstairs to the old cruising area and hang out in the toilets —for whatever reason. The Eagle used to be the only bar in Newcastle that was a safe space for fetish/leather/bear/MEN, but have sold themselves out to anyone that would spend their money here even going as far as creating gender neutral toilets they even provide bins for women If a bar where people congregate in the toilets just to share a bottle of poppers —and do nothing sexual—to the music of Britney Spears, Aqua, Steps 90s cheese pop be my guest. I just Hope desperately someone can soon acquire this bar and turn it into a members only male bar: good music, good patrons, good vibes. God knows Newcastle needs it.
We had a great time in the Eagle last night. Because of the prople who use the bar. However, this was marred by the attitude of bar staff, who were unfriendly and rude. I think the owner may want to review thier positions in favour of staff who welcome punters. In particular the bald barman who thinks he's gods gift, needs reminding the punters pay his wages.
I came tonight for a few pre drinks before n dubz concertz drinks were a reasonable price, and when we asked staff, they let us use a clean toilet, which was probably kept for girls. The staff are extremely nice and will cater to your needs.
Poor Drink quality, staff are generally disengaged and don’t seem to understand they are there to serve the customer rather than treat them as an inconvenience. Music sporadic and dependant on bar staff’s mood and taste. Nothing here is customer focused that’s why it’s drastically gone downhill. Used to be a late bar. No more
Cool place. The bouncers were good at keeping us safe. I’d recommend it. I’d caution that it’s quite X rated, especially downstairs!
Not dog friendly unlike many of the gay bars in Newcastle. May be all the dogs downstairs. Not worth a visit. Gone downhill since previous owner passed away.
Called in last night after attending a gig at the O2 academy For a couple of quiet drinks Lovely friendly staff.. And I would say definitely the best bar in the area Cheers Drew.
The Eagle is my favourite bar in Newcastle. The environment itself is quite atmospheric and the music isn't too loud which is nice when you want to have a conversation. All sorts of goings on happens downstairs which is even more atmospharic. Themed nights are a thing also. Nice smoking area to the back of the building. Free WiFi and USB charging ports are available at the booth tables which comes in very handy. The Eagle is located close to many amenities which also comes in very handy as well. It really is a great place
Decent place except bar staff are often chatting to the little group of friends at the end of the bar. Some great staff too
