Lovely National Trust stately home, with plenty of history and some fascinating artwork. Look out for the fake corridor painting, the leather panelled walls, the painting of the battle of the siege of La Rochelle (remember your Three Musketeers?) The cafeteria restaurant is good, though a narrower choice than it used to be. The car park is some distance from the house. A good walk of you're feeling up to it, and there's a free shuttle bus service if you aren't. Either way, keep your eyes open and you'll see plenty of deer in the grounds. The gardens are great, and they are doing an amazing job of reconstructing the early garden designs. Enjoy!

A brilliant National Trust property. Great inside and out. The tearoom is great as well, the grounds well kept and a great playground.

This place is a very nice place to take a walk. Although I've never been inside the house, the food for the café is excellent and the grounds are well maintained. The gardens at the front of the house are beautiful but during the spring it isn't that much to look at.

Enjoyed the visit, great walks around the estate. Nice compact garden, lots of tulips out in the spring. Nice cafe for food and drink. Plus normal national trust shop with usual tat.

Really interesting place, the guides really knew the stuff and pointed out things we'd missed. Friendly people and fantastic surroundings. Entry fee is a bit steep for non NT members but I guess that's part of the strategy of NT not Durham
