The grounds around the station are some of the most luscious and verdant I have seen. I don't know where I would empirically rank them among all of the wonderfully overgrown areas in this country, with thickets of narrow trees and winding ivy and confidently flowering bushes, but it pleasantly surprised me. I thought that after I left the station itself I would either be in an urban area or in a rather grotesque car centric hinterland. Instead, I found myself surrounded by the nourishing richness of nature, with fertile soil and waxy leaves and the songs of birds perched in the narrow trees. It was just surprising in a very good way!
Village currently with several Universities and students from all over the world. Castle and Park Green is now student housing, can you imagine!? A lot of live sports watching pubs. Pretty river, bridge, castle view.
Once I'd been to the cathedral and castle and short walks around either side of the river, that seemed about it.
Accidentally got on the wrong train and ended up in Durham. Paul at the ticket desk was so lovely - sorted it out very quickly at no charge. Unexpectedly kind!
A wonderful little station. Well-connected and frequent services. Clean and plenty of seating. Relatively easy to navigate. Spacious covered waiting areas. Some shops, and toilets for each platform.
