Darlington train station is a truly magical experience for everyone. I decided to spend the day here because of the beautiful clock. Such was its beauty that I spent the entire day sat on a bench staring at the clock because I wanted to witness its beauty minute-by-minute. It didn't disappoint. Anyone considering a visit to Darlington Station should act now and visit before you regret.

Darlington is a hub for Teesside and is well connected to the other hub, Middlesbrough. The station is well laid out. The ticket office is open most of the day, as is the onsite information office. A cafe, a shop and a news, stationery, soft drinks and confectionery shop are present. A taxi company's headquarters is on site and is based where the two northbound bay platforms were. The southbound bays are still used.

Bit shabby and dated. Staff friendly and helpful but platform and facilities not up to modern standards. Roof leaks when it rains making the platform and concourse like a skating rink, with the fake marble effect flooring. Seating old and uncomfortable with very poor indoor waiting. Toilets are okay but pokey but free. There is a real bottle neck at the ticket barriers especially when two main line trains are in at the same time. The barriers do not work with bar codes or tickets on a phone. You have to get one of the friendly but harassed staff to 'beep' you through. Last thing, surely a mainline station like this have a proper Costa, not just a shack. Even Durham has a better one! It is not big enough to cope with the demands and provides nowhere to drink your coffee except some metal chairs in the open concourse.
