Great pub with an amazing atmosphere and a garden. The beer selection was alright and plus a glass of wine at a good price, so it was a winner. We tried two of their jerk chicken bun and they came with great crispy fries as well. The burgers were cooked fantastically and the beer garden full of tables was energetic with a lively crowd. We had a great time here unwinding before our beer tasting experience at the London Beer Lab around the corner. Was really great.
Brixton  £6.75 Cruzcampo The Duke of Edinburgh is located in a quiet residential area in the backstreets of Brixton. The nearest Tube is Brixton, it’s a five minute walk to get here. This pub was originally built in 1874. The pub you see today was built in 1937 by Truman’s principal architect A E Sewell. This pub is Grade II listed and features on CAMRA’s list of pubs with interiors of historic interest, this being of Outstanding National Importance. The decor here is stunning, seemingly it looks untouched since the day the pub was built. At the front is the old Public Bar which has a pool table, traditional pews and its own servery. Head through an open walkway and you arrive into a large wood panelled bar with amazing stained leaded windows. There are some fantastic original features like the ornate fireplaces and the chequered spittoon in front of the long servery. At the back of the pub is a huge sprawling beer garden, I was told this is the largest in South London. The beer selection is all keg and offers a mix of mainstream brews and local craft beers. I decided on a Cruzcampo, my pint was excellent, price point was a little punchy. The food menu is by @bandobelly who combine American, Caribbean and Asian flavours into Burgers and other comfort food options, most Burgers cost £12. I arrived just after 12pm on a warm Saturday lunchtime in August. The pub was fairly quiet as it had just opened. I decided to plot up in the front bar area and watch the Olympics, a superb soulful soundtrack played in the background. I got chatting to one of the team who was kind enough to give me a guided tour, what a nice chap. This pub shows live footy, there are plenty of screens here to watch a game. I must admit, I am a big fan of 1930’s interwar built pubs, so the @dukebrixton was right up my street. This is a handsome traditional pub with a splendid interior. The beer choice, tasty grub, friendly team and the enormous beer garden make for an impressive pub experience. This is definitely one to visit when in SW9. ℹ Info correct on visiting 03.08.24
Love the atmosphere and crowd. Showing great live sport games. Went here for a friend’s birthday and we had so much fun on the beer garden. Perfect for summer weatherFood: 5/5
The new Korean menu is not very good. Fried chicken remarkably tasteless, and not very authentic.Food: 2/5
This is a really massive pub with great outdoor space and heating that has friendly staff and a really nice owner. We were recommended a white wine which just tastes amazing so they know what is good. Lots of different food options but unfortunately did not end up eating there. They also have good prices on drinks and happy hour as well! The outdoor venue is a lot different from indoors which creates this amazing duality of being at two different places. Would definitely come back again for some more food and wine.
Be aware that kids are not allowed after 5pm. Venue is of course entitled to set their own rules, but this is unusually early for such a policy and is not advertised anywhere in the pub. Instead of politely warning us of this in good time before 5pm, security appeared with no warning at almost 6pm trying to hustle us and our quietly reading child out, without time to finish drinks. They really need to handle this better.
Great pub with friendly staff...except one. The fella with curly brown hair that rolls his eyes whenever anyone makes an order. Almost like he's surprised someone's asked him to pour a pint...cheer up fella! A smile once in a while won't hurt
This garden pub tucked away in a residential area of Brixton is superb. Normally in garden pubs you expect to wait in a long queue to get served drinks but there is a 2 line queue system for the outside bar to remove that issue. The garden itself is huge with lots benches and tables lines up in rows. The food available is mostly Caribbean but everything we ordered was superb and could not fault it. It also arrived fairly quickly even though it was peak eating time and the garden was packed. The only down side is the garden closes at around 10pm so you are forced to go inside, but as it's residential you can totally understand that. The inside however is well kept traditional old boozer with lots of seating. Some nice old features of the original pub still there which is great. The staff are all friendly as are the clientele. I'll be recommending this place to friends and definitely coming back mostly for the jerk chicken burger and jerk fries!
Didn't eat here l, wanted a hot drink they didn't serve this. Would have been good to for those sitting outside chilling. Atmosphere was really cute nice lights when it got dark and sounds people socialising.
Typical pub vibe with outstanding food selection, reasonable pricing and incredible outside terrace that you must make a use of in good weather. The pub is spacious and they take bookings, so perfect for friends meet up. The food is exceptionally delicious with tasty vegetarian and meat options. Jerk chicken burger and cauliflower pops are a complete must try. No roast dinner here but an exceptional jerk twist to all your favourite pub food.
