Drams Scotland is a family run private tour company. The Owners are Michael and Ann Marie Neilson. We did the North Coast 500 plus a side tour to the Orkney Islands. The North Coast 500 includes the Isle of Skye. Our main interest was photography of landscapes, seascapes, archaeological sites, and historical structures. Michael was our guide for a private 10 day tour. He is incredibly knowledgeable of Scottish history and very knowledgeable about the geology and geography of the Scottish Highlands. If you are interested he can entertain you for hours with discussions of Scottish history and geography. More importantly he knows lots of places to get a cup of tea or lunch. And he knows where to find rest rooms. He obviously likes beaches and grand panoramas. He knows lots of view points and places to stop for short and long walks. He will stop to let you get out to take photographs when he can stop. We traveled on many single track roads where it is often difficult to stop. He was very accommodating of our limited stamina at our age. We had a lot of luggage because we were away from home for almost 3 weeks and because we take a lot of photographic gear. He managed our luggage efficiently in the many places we stayed in that did not have lifts/elevators. He was always ready when we were and patient when we were not ready. My head practically spins with all of the places we saw in the Scottish highlands. We came away with many good memories and a lot of interesting photos. My only reservations about the tour is that Scottish weather in April is not very conducive to great photography. However, we only had one day of really bad weather and that was our first full day in the Orkney Islands. It was rainy and cold that day. I like to take photos out the window of our vehicle while it is moving. Although I could not see it with my eyes, it turns out that the side windows of the van have a blue-green cast that the camera sees that I could not. It is not hard to color correct the photos using a computer. Some of the highlights of the trip included Duncansbay Sea Stacks, the ruins of Broch of Gurness, the ancient cattle droving single track road Bealach na Ba, Eileen Donan Castle, Stalker Castle, Ben Nevis (the highest mountain in Britain) and much much more.
