After many years at this surgery it has gone massively downhill in recent years. Possibly because services are now overstretched but it really is no excuse for the poor level of care received here. I find you often have to beg for them to do tests and referrals and they are playing Russian roulette with children’s health but not assessing things properly. One doctor told me over the phone my child had the usual winter vomiting bug without seeing her and 3 days later we rushed her into A&E with pneumonia. They miss test results all the time where treatment could have been started earlier if they were more diligent and I never see the same front office staff for more than 5 minutes. Shame on you Honiton Surgery.
Just spent 20 minutes on the phone to release an appointment I can't attend to have the phone disconnected on me without even speaking to anyone. When you do get through staff are mostly friendly, but calling has become an absolute joke and it's easier to go to the surgery and tell them. Unfortunately I don't have transport and the reason I'm cancelling is because I can't walk very well and it's 25 minutes all uphill. I tried...
If there were a negative star option I’d give it as this surgery is without a doubt one of the worst medical institutions I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with. I’ve had a chronic illness since the age of 6 so have seen my fair share of medical professionals and have never been treated as badly or with as little respect as I have here. I’ve had to BEG for blood tests that have been VITAL to my care, tossed aside when asking for more Information on newly developed conditions & Called a hypochondriac by my GP who refuses to talk to me like a human or take advice from other medical professionals regarding my care. I am currently in the middle of a complaints process because as much as I love the NHS, I will not stand aside & let anyone else receive the same abysmal care I’ve suffered under this practice. If you’re thinking of joining PLEASE look around TO see if another area will take you as, you do not want to put your life in this surgery’s hands.
I can no longer get through via the phone as I constantly get line busy rather than put in a queue. Then got an appointment via 111 to be waiting an hour past appointment time, to be seen for two minutes to say my child has a winter cough even though she has been coughing for months and unwell with no way of helping an exhausted toddler who needs help.
No longer at this surgery. For years my husband had signs of diabetes but they wouldn’t accept his blood sugar readings and used only a flawed Hba1c test and refused to look into it. He kept asking questions as he was really ill and spent his entire time under a fan dripping sweat and feeling dreadful. He was asked to contact less. He was told it was ‘all in his head’. Well they managed to miss- chronic heart failure, chronic kidney failure, hepatitis E, 2 heart attacks, ADHD, and when he went in for a triple bypass operation, they asked is he had diabetes- he said he thought he did but was told he didn’t. Tests were done- surgery was delayed. Very diabetic. Op took twice as long. He had to stay in for twice as long. He’s now takes insulin and 3 other diabetic medications. Uncontrolled diabetes causes life-long damage and he has several problems stemming from that. They did spot his fibromyalgia and realise that his tiredness wasn’t depression although he was stuck with antidepressants he didn’t want- just in case. They kept upping his asthma meds- he didn’t have asthma- it was his heart- as he kept suggesting to the surgery. He suspected heart issues as every ecg suggested a problem but nobody would do anything with that as thought he was just nervous! His dad has had 6 heart attacks and all the men is his family all die young with heart issues- the GP ignored that info. It all ended up with an investigation and apology from the NHS. I wouldn’t mention it now but it’s just a warning. If you have obvious signs of diabetes - nerve damage, bruising or wounds that don’t heal, sweating, feeling sick, extreme fatigue, lose or put on weight, go to the loo 5-6 times a night, extreme dehydration, thirst, blurred vision, thrush, ulcers. Do what they call a glucose fasting test. If it suggests you are diabetic and they refuse to consider it and insist they will only use the single one, they may be wrong- the Hba1c test isn’t used by half the world due to it sometimes being inaccurate. Go to a different GP who don’t mind taking you seriously. My husband can’t open jars or grip much of anything now and he’s a former powerlifter- if this surgery had listened to him before he may not be so ill today. it was just assumed he was a hypochondriac. But he wasn’t.5 years he kept asking for them to look into diabetes as he recognised similar issues to this grandfather. Only this flawed test done. It gives an average over 3 months for blood sugar. He ate 1 meal a day for years and 1 day a week he would exercise and not eat. He did this because each meal made his blood sugar go sky high. The rest of the time he spent starving himself fasting. He explained he had to do this to the GP or his blood sugar was too high. He gave examples on the fasting glucose test. But over a 3 month period his blood sugar was within range- probably close to diabetic coma most of the day- in the hypoglycaemia range followed by meal and hours of hyperglycaemia. What could he do? He kept getting the symptoms, he did the tests they wouldn’t but was told it was ‘all in his head’ by the GP. So please if you read this and you have health issues that concern you and feel like this surgery aren’t listening, please go to a different doctors or at least insist they do further tests. They follow government guidelines here. They aren’t actually doing it wrong. It is simply that the tests are not always accurate as the UK cut corners due to budgetary constraints. Husband can’t even source some prescriptions since Brexit. Didn’t vote to leave either so it’s been hard over the past 7-8 years.
This is without a doubt the worst GP surgery I have ever used. If I could give zero stars then I would.
Since going to this surgery I don't think I have had a bad experience, however I am aware that my wife has on several occasions - I think most is down to which Doctor you see - however a response of not waiting to discuss medication ingredients due to it being too early in the morning is a big no no for informed consent...
Disappointing. A doctors surgery that won’t see patients. Ended up going to A & E who quickly identified and treated the problem.
My mum is with this surgery, I am her next of kin and they are amazing. Mum is elderly with complex needs and finds the doctors to be attentive and compassionate, they have done several home visits despite being very busy. When I have been with her during consultation they are clear in their verbal communication so that she knows what to expect and she is included in decision making and has the final say. When I ring the surgery they are efficient, attentive and do what they say they will. Wonderful all round.
Unfortunately they staff where very Unhelpful, they don’t appreciate that people have jobs and can’t always get to the phone right away then they decided that you clearly don’t need help if this is the case despite it could be a serious medical condition, not to mention how rude they where when I then had to call back and try to explain
