We had such a great time here! We came and stayed for a night for my boyfriend’s birthday and we booked the ‘signature pamper break’. We choose the two 25 minute treatments we had Scarlet and Ella do our treatments and they were both lovely, made us feel relaxed and were really amazing at their craft! The pool and sauna/steam rooms were lovely! Our room was comfy and we had dinner in the restaurant which was tasty and the staff were really nice! All in all we had an amazing stay! It would have been 5 stars but as we were checking out we had to pay £18 for parking, in our booking confirmation it said ‘Parking at the hotel is included in your spa day. Please make sure you enter your registration at the spa or hotel reception. You do not need to pay at the parking machines.’, so we were under the impression parking was covered. We just ask it’s more explicitly written saying parking a covered for the day but overnight stays are charged at £18, in the email confirmation!nnBut I would recommend this hotel and stay again.
I booked this stay for my boyfriend’s 21st birthday and unfortunately it fell far below the standard we expected. There were a few positives, but overall the experience was disappointing.nnOne of the main reasons for our visit was the spa, and this was a let-down from the start. We were both booked for 10am massages, and naturally assumed this meant a couples treatment. Not once during the booking process was I told we’d be in separate rooms. To make things more frustrating, I was actually placed in a double treatment room, meaning my boyfriend could have been with me after all. The spa facilities were also concerning in terms of hygiene. There were plasters both at the side of the pool which had been taken out from the pool - absolutely unacceptable. The “ice bowl” contained no ice at all, just a used bandage, which was incredibly unhygienic and showed a complete lack of infection control.nnAlthough our room was clean and nicely presented, the bed was noticeably smaller than a standard double despite the room being advertised as such. This made the stay less comfortable than it should have been.nnThe evening meal was another disappointment. Portions were very small and the quality didn’t justify the prices. Breakfast, however, was very nice and one of the few highlights of our stay.nnMusic from the ballroom played until midnight, making it difficult to sleep and relax. On top of this, the lifts were broken, adding unnecessary inconvenience.nnCustomer service was a recurring issue. When we checked in, the receptionist didn’t greet us or even say hello, which set a poor tone from the start. When we checked out, we weren’t asked how our stay was — a basic standard of hospitality that was completely missed.nnOn the positive side, breakfast was lovely and the massage itself was very relaxing. The location is also convenient as it is only about a 5 minute walk into the centre of Harrogate.nnOverall, despite coming for a special occasion, the hotel didn’t meet expectations. I wouldn’t stay here again.
The hotel itself is really beautiful, with lovely décor throughout, and it’s in a great location. The reception staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, which made a great first impression.nnThe room was nice overall and well presented, although the bed was quite small. One issue was the shower: the glass wasn’t properly fixed to the wall and was too short, so water went everywhere when using it. Aside from that, the room was comfortable.nnWe used the spa, which was just okay. There isn’t a huge amount there, and unfortunately the experience was spoiled by loud children shouting and splashing. In addition, the corner shower area had noticeable black marks on the ceiling that looked like damp or mould, which wasn’t ideal.nnThe restaurant was the biggest letdown. There were only around two staff working, which clearly contributed to the very slow service. There was also a large event on at the time, which may explain why service was so delayed and the food quality wasn’t great. Drinks took about 20 minutes to arrive, and we waited over an hour for our mains after only having bread beforehand. In total, we spent well over an hour and a half there for essentially one course and two drinks. My food was badly overcooked, although my partner’s meal was good. On a positive note, the cocktails were lovely.nnOverall, I’d definitely stay at the hotel again — it’s very pretty, well located, and has excellent front desk staff — but I’d choose to dine elsewhere next time.
This review is written from the point of view that this is not a budget hotel, rooms being close to £200 a night. Although the room I had was ‘fine’ it just lacked anything to differentiate it from cheaper options. Decor is grey and dull, the pillows are floppy, the kettle was stuck in a tired cupboard and the room was not serviced. So yes the hotel is pleasant enough but doesn’t reach the level I’d expect for the price considering the competition.
Beautiful hotel with a lot of history. Staff are friendly , approachable , well presented and charismatic with plenty of knowledge especially the bar and carters restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble and you can see this with presentation and professionalism. We Didn’t mind staying over despite a large wedding in the afternoon/ evening. After all it is an events Hotel. Great work from all the team and the food is sublime. Few photos to view- spa was stunning and much needed !! Helpful staff and loved to glimpse a sneak peak of the wedding arrangements.
