Great brunch. We had the prawn omelette and lamb shoulder. The lamb was generous and tasty. Actually both were delicious, just wished there had of been 2 x prawn omelettes rather than one so that portion sizes were more comparable for sharing : Lovely service from Mike who was prompt and attentive.
For some reason, I found this place to be disappointingly 'meh'. Overall the decor is very nice and they have quite a swish-feeling dining room upstairs, but the experience was let down by the service. We were not greeted when we arrived, the staff were not very familiar with the wine list and once upstairs, the toilets are two flights down - not great when you're wearing heels! You also have to walk through the raucous ground floor which somewhat ruins the experience. I wouldn't usually mind any of these things, but the prices were surprisingly steep about 16 pounds on average with vegetables etc extra of course. The food was nice enough but were distracted by the fact that our knives were essentially butter knives and rubbish for cutting meat/fish!
Disappointed with food and service. Staff were very friendly but we had to constantly ask for more water, our plates to be cleared and more drinks, despite two staff members standing at a table next to us chatting to another staff member/friend dining at the restaurant. I had the pork belly which was delicious, although small. My friend had the steak which came with bone marrow but no sauce so was a little dry. I was excited to have the lamington, however it came straight from the fridge and was cold... Any Aussie knows these are to be served at room temperature!! Great decor and fit out, and branding.
This is a great restaurant with outstanding food in a great location. I visited Dickie Fitz on a Friday lunchtime and whilst it was busy the atmosphere created by the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Once at my table my drinks arrived and my order was taken very promptly. The service for the whole meal was excellent. I had heard great things of this place and I have to say the food itself absolutely lived up to its reputation, it was outstanding. I will be visiting again and I would have no hesitation is recommending Dickie Fitz to anyone
Stopped in with friends for a catchup. There's a really bright fresh feeling to the place. However the service was hurried before taking our order but slow to arrive. Not a great combination. One diner had his food taken away before he had finished! Food was average if a bit uninspired - the Thai salad was a bit dull, whilst the Kedgeree was a bit warm. The salmon and poached eggs were good. Nothing to write home about.
A nice restaurant, leaning towards Australian food and drinks. If you are from Australia or NZ as I am it will remind you of home. Quite a nice place, but still laid back. Food and cocktail were good. Staff and service was great they initially took our order, realised they didn't have enough lobsters to make our order, came and apologised and then gave us loads of complimentary sides.
I made a last minute reservation for seven people. We managed to get a great table upstairs, we were able to enjoy the food which was good and it has a relaxed atmosphere. The waitress we had on the day was great. I will definitely recommend for a casual meal with a nice selection of beer and wines
Arrived here with my future in laws and it was not a good experience. Firstly the music was ridiculously loud, like you'd expect in a club. Secondly they'd run out of a lot of their food as there was a big party upstairs we weren't informed of this when booking. To top it all off, the portion sizes are miniscule and the bill came to over £100 we had no drinks. Would not recommend this place. Save yourself the embarrassment of taking people here...I wish I did!
I had high hopes for the Newman Street Tavern after reading good reviews, unfortunately this place is let down by the staff and their ridiculous policies. When we arrived for a birthday lunch we were greeted by a very miserable waitress, we asked if we could give them a cake to bring out after the meal. We were then informed that they charge 'cakage' of £4 per person yes per person, there were 15 of us we said absolutely not and we'd go elsewhere to have the cake. The manager smiled and told us 'cakage' was a standard restaurant charge. I've celebrated many birthday's in London restaurants pubs and fine dining and have NEVER experienced this. The food itself was okay, not outstanding, to be honest we were all really annoyed about the cake situation so by the time the food was served by the grumpy waitress I really wasn't in the mood to eat. We decided to pay the bill asking them to remove £50 service charge and head across the road to a pub to have drinks and eat the cake, the staff at the pub were lovely, provided us with plates and a knife and guess what...they didn't charge us! We stayed there for the remainder of the evening. Safe to say we won't be going back and I certainly will not recommend this restaurant to colleagues or friends.
I have been working in Goodge Street for just over two years now. New restaurants opening I always find very exciting, especially just around the corner from work. I descided to take my mum who was visiting me in London today at lunch to Dickie Fitz which caught my eye recently with the amazing designs outside the building. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a warm welcome from a bubbly front of house assistant. Instant credibility when these people are warming straight away and look sincere in looking after you. The service then pursued to be top notch, apart from a blonde girl who looked like she didn't want to be there. Nothing worse than fake smiles to the customers!! The restaurant manager let us know when the food was going to be arriving after 10 minutes, which was only three minutes away. Good service! Me and mum ordered the lamb chops for £17.50 each which was garnished with mint leaves and complimented with mint sauce. We both were very excited for our food. The food arrives on to the table........ Oh dear! For £17.50 you receive three small pieces of lamb which was surrounded by bone so very hard to cut in to - Of course bone is expected however if the portions of the meat are too small the bone overbalances the dish and makes it very hard to cut in to. Extremely dissapointed! A pretentious dish with no value for your money. I would of ordered some fries to fill the gap in my stomach from the lack of lamb meat however they were £4.00 for about 15 small skinny fries - To which I saw the guy right next to me eating. I get we have to pay a premium for locations like that, however don't rip the customer off!!! Gutted.
