Dickens House Museum
"NOW REOPENEDDickens House Museum celebrates Charles Dickens' long connection with Broadstairs 1837-1851. It is housed in the cottage that was Dickens' inspiration for the home of Betsey Trotwood in David Copperfield.Visitors will see items that once belonged to Dickens, including letters written about Broadstairs, his writing box and mahogany sideboard, and a fine collection of prints by H K Browne Phiz, one of Dickens' principal illustrators. Sorry to disagree, but this little museum just isn't very good. The curation and guidance is put together with all the precision and care of a drunk setting a table. While there are some a few interesting artefacts, they're assembled in a haphazard and juvenile manner. But much of the content is boring illustrations which you can find just as easily on Google. It's topped off by staff who are overly officious to the point of rudeness, making the whole experience tedious and tiresome. While it's inexpensive, it's not one I'd recommend to anyone other than the most ardent Dickens enthusiast. If you've ever been to a half decent museum, you'll be bored and possibly irritated at the lack of thought put into this place. The Dickens museum in London would do well to secure the few interesting items and let this place be put to bed.
Visiring Charles Dickens'museum was quite a magnificent experience!! And the staff there is very welcoming and friendly!
Friendly. Interesting. Good tour guide providing a helpful insight. Small. But well worth the price and visit
An Absolute Must When Visiting Broadstairs. A Brilliant 'Must See' Piece Of History In A Beautiful Little Town.
Seriously! Dickens would turn in his grave. The place might be ‘cosy’ not ‘cozy’ - something you would use to keep a teapot warm.
OK but could be better
A lovely, little museum full of interesting artifacts and knowledgeable tour guides who are local Dicken's enthusiasts! It's only £3.50 to enter and is worth the price due to it's small size; I spent less than an hour inside. It's worth a visit though to learn some local history, especially if you're a fan of the novels. I certainly learnt new facts about Charles Dickens I didn't know before.
Nice museum, small but interesting. You have to pay. Family ticket is 8pounds for 2 adults and 2 kids
Keep the place open. It's a shame for visitors who come and can't go inside
Lovely little piece of history Super cheap to get in. Guides are so friendly and very knowledgeable
