This carpark used to be free but now its under new management and of course there's now a charge. I'm sure the cost of parking here will increase over time to a ridiculous tariff but at the moment five pounds for 24 hours is very reasonable and it's a lovely place to be on a warm sunny day.
No longer free but pretty reasonably nonetheless and you can pay using RingGo the app, lovely walks from the car park and a couple of nice pubs within a few minutes walk

Lovely afternoon stroll with furbaby and to top it free parking!! Beautiful garden to wonder at as you pass by. Wildlife to be spotted all around. Places to stop and enjoy the views with food and drink on hand. Stopped and chatted to lots of friendly dog walkers along the way
We used to come here for years, heybridge basin itself is lovely and we’d stop for tea at the tearooms. Unfortunately the parking is no longer free and we hear that minor infractions are met with extreme fines. I hope the local businesses are doing okay in spite of this classic cash grab by the local council. Until we can find somewhere else to park, we will unfortunately not be coming again.
Decent size car park next to the canal into Chelmsford. Parking meters are now installed, Pay by card or Ringo. Reasonably priced we thought. Their are cafe's and Good pubs close by both with Quality food, as well as the Tiptree tea room on the shore side.
Beware exorbitant excess parking fines! Met up recently in the car park, paid for 2 hours parking. One car left at 2 hr 10 minutes, one at 2 hr18 minutes. I accept we were at fault and would accept a reasonable penalty charge. £100.00 for each car is not reasonable in my opinion. Disappointingly, Heybridge Basin PC who own the car park and have awarded the operation contract to a third party, will not take any ownership for this. So the car park is convenient for the walks and facilities in the area, but do make sure you get out of the car park within the time you have paid for.. NOTE your time starts and ends as you enter/leave the car park
Not sure this car park now even deserves one star! It’s such a shame as Heybridge Basin itself is a lovely place. This car park now charges using ANPR rather than pay and display. This means it works your time out on entry and exit. Therefore when purchasing your ticket please allow for the time taken to purchase the ticket and getting in and out of the car. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS IF TOU CHOOSE TO USE THIS CARPARK.
It's a shame that it's now chargeable to park here - but free parking is a rare thing these days. It is "Ringo" pay by phone parking or by card - no cash - I've heard stories of people incorrectly getting parking fines despite paying for parking, so hang on to your parking ticket! There are absolutely no parking by lines to guide poor drivers on how/where to park, which results in gaps in-between cars that are way bigger than they need to be but not big enough to fit a car in. Expect to drive round several laps or sit and wait for a space if you go at busy times/days. If there are no spaces left then that's you done & your planned day out by the river/estuary is immediately ruined.
This car park is under new management. Now have to pay, as I didn't have any change as when I used last year it was free had to download the parking app, which charge 35p more than paying cash!!
