Daisy Hill Hospital is a local teaching hospital located in Newry, County Armagh, Northern Ireland.The hospital currently houses a neonatal unit, A&E department, out-patients department and a surgery suite. Attached to the hospital is on-site accommodation for nursing staff and an ambulance station.It is part of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, which became operational on 1 April 2007 following the amalgamation of Craigavon Area Hospital Group, Craigavon and Banbridge Community, Newry and Mourne and Armagh and Dungannon Health and Social Services Trusts. It is situated on the Hospital Road and backs onto the A25 Camlough Road, on the site of the former Newry Workhouse.In the early 1990s Daisy Hill became the only hospital in Newry & Mourne as services were gradually withdrawn from St. John of God Hospital, also in Newry, which then became St. John's House, a dedicated hospice for children and adults suffering from terminal illnesses.New hospitalA £130m business case for the building of a new hospital on the existing Daisy Hill site has been submitted by the Trust. An allocation for modernisation and development of services was included in the £2.9 billion investment programme announced for health and social services over the next ten years in the Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland in December 2005. In 2015, while discussion on provision of a new hospital continues, no new building has been commenced.
