British volunteer army reservists (Territorial Army), a Regiment-sized unit from 1859 to 1967, since when the serving contingent has been reduced to rifle company strength and part of composite battalions, currently the London Regiment.

Formed in 1859 in order to defend the Realm against the threat of French invasion under Napoleon III. Current role pending full development of the "Future Reserves 2020" plan, is, as part of the London Regiment, to support the five Regiments of Foot Guards on operations as required. Within that, there is a special linkage between the London Irish Rifles and the Irish Guards.
