Very tasty food, especially the scallop starter and the pork belly main, but the service was a bit on the slow side, and not very attentive. The waitress forgot to bring the water that we asked for so we waited a while and eventually asked someone else for it. The starter appeared quickly but the mains took forever to arrive, and this seemed to be the case for everyone dining - only burgers appeared quickly, but all other dishes seemed to take an age. Rating this 4 stars for the taste of the food, but kitchen service needs to be improved. The dining area is nice and warm, with interesting decor, and is very spacious.
Sadly I didn’t have the opportunity to stay here but I wish I had! I ended up coming here for an evening meal and the following mornings breakfast. This is a lovely hotel and restaurant very aesthetically pleasing on the eye with wood panelling and comfy chairs. The bar area provides a great atmosphere it’s a very large space that continues on and on into decent seating and relaxing areas. The staff were welcoming and friendly finding my friend and I a table for evening meal as walk ins. The menu has plenty of options and the food was lovely, I had the southern fried chicken burger with a side of garlic flat bread. For dessert I had the chocolate and orange torte, all of it was prepared and presented excellently. The next morning I returned for breakfast choosing the full English with an americano. Again I made an excellent choice, the breakfast menu had a good range of choices for all dietary preferences. Based on my experience I would certainly recommend you should visit this place if you’re in the area. If I find myself locally situated again I will ensure I book earlier and get a room here.
Beautiful hotel with a lovely outside area. Inside is traditional but stylish. Clean. I absolutely was not expecting the food to be of such fantastic quality! Fresh cauliflower fritters that were not oily at all. The beef was unbelievably tender! Lovely staff. Can’t recommend enough.
Have a lovely two night stay. Beautiful comfortable room, fantastic breakfast to set you up for the day. Staff in the hotel were super friendly and helpful. Great location, we went to the Badger Brewery tour which is well worth a visit when you are there. We will definitely stay at the Crown again.Rooms: 4/5
Beautiful pub, amazing proper classy British pub atmosphere in the bar, beautiful restaurant, delicious spectacularly seasoned food, friendly knowledgeable helpful team.... This is my new favourite pub in Dorset. Cannot wait to experience it in the summer. Well done, team Crown! You are doing amazing job in very hard times for hospitality. Jess Awesome - she claimed this was her surname is an absolute legend in the restaurant, Helen at host station is so welcoming and accommodating and Tommy is a great laugh and banter person around closing time. Absolutely love this place!
A superb hotel. Wonderfully traditional decoration. Some rooms have air con which is awesome. Family rooms with adjoining bedrooms are ace. Clean, tidy, all the hotel conveniences you expect. Big baths and showers. Loads of free parking. The restaurant is very good and breakfast is a feast if you want to indulge. I recommend it and look forward to staying there again.
We went here for my mum's birthday and had a great time. Super friendly staff, well cooked classic pub food. Great building with easy parking. Recommend. Will be going again. Walkability: Location in an old style country town with lots of independent shops to look in. Food & drinks: Lovely pub grub
The staff were amazing and so welcoming. The food and drinks were equally amazing. Great price too! Really lovely find and will definitely be back! We didn’t have a very welcoming experience from another local establishment so I’m glad we left there and came to The Crown!
I last enjoyed a meal at The Crown Hotel over 20 years ago. It was great then and it is even better now. The ambience was as good as ever. Saw a couple of chillaxed dogs in the Common Room area - always a welcome sight! ;- The food was great and the service was friendly. Couldn't have asked for better... Noteworthy details: Free parking
We wanted to have a night out, and not a quick in and out dinner on Friday 4th. Booked on their website for drinks and a second booking for dinner. Clever system that works well. We arrived for drinks and there was a big noisy celebratory table next to our booked table, Sophia arranged a more private table and we enjoyed leisurely drinks for an hour or so. Great service from the bar team. We loved through to the restaurant and after we looking at the menu we didn’t see main meals that jumped out at us, not because they weren’t delicious, we just couldn’t make up our minds Instead we order the Garlic Tiger Prawn Starter, the Baked Camembert to share, crab and Mascarpone Ravioli a little heavy on capers for me, but I pushed them to the side, a house salad and a potion on crispy chips. Sophia and the team provided two plates and we shared the lot…. Too delicious to waste time on photos this time… Sophia’s recommendation of an Espresso Martini We will be back…
