Friendly staff . It was a popular Saturday when other pubs were short on staff due to the Queen's passing, but they welcomed me as a solo tourist traveler and I had a seat at the window. The Toad in the Hole was delicious. Not knowing local ales, the bar keep recommended a dark beer, and it was perfect. Will definitely be back.
Ate here one evening during the Fringe. There is a good choice of starters and mains on the menu, and good beers also. The steak pie was hearty with lots of beefy filling and nice crisp pastry. The fish pie was also good and satisfying with a mashed potato topping. The pub is close to a statue of Sherlock Holmes, and is named after Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the detective stories featuring Sherlock.
The Conan Doyle is a fun pub to visit while in town. Obviously, it pays tribute to Edinburgh's own, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes. It's a fun atmosphere and the food and drinks are good. Visitors note, while Google says it opens at noon, they advertise opening at midday, and the kitchen isn't always ready when the doors to the pub open. It's a place for a casual lunch and a drink, not fast food.
Great pub with a good range and quality of food and beverages. It's situated close to the new tram line, bus stops, the main theatres and retail centre. It has a cozy vibe at night and plenty of sports on the tv if that's your jam. Food wise you can pick a tasty pie or burger, or perhaps some salmon or other dishes the fish is popular so if you're arriving after 7pm you may be disappointed. Wise range of local and imported beers, wines and spirits, and naturally there's a few cocktails and tasty deserts on offer.
Cozy pub in the heart of Edinburgh. The food was amazing and I can’t recommend the haggis dish enough. There’s a wide variety of drinks and attentive members of staff. Shoutout to Hana who’s extranet professional and friendly! Though it can be quite crowded during Fridays and Saturdays so booking in advance for food would be ideal.
Traditional pub with great food selection recommend the fish and chips and nice service. Always a nice atmosphere to go to whether quiet or busy.
Amazing pub and also with takeaway, I was in a hurry for a train and well I was looking for not the typical fast food for travelling, the takeaway was really fast and I enjoyed hot pub food looking the scottish countryside view. Delicius fish pie, perfect haggis and the steak pie just perfect. Also very friendly staff as a tourist easy to understand _ scottish accent.
Absolutely loved the ambiance! The food was okay but expensive. I had my first traditional Scottish pie there. I’d go there again maybe just for a drink next time and not food.
We were in here for lunch so it wasn't crowded. Lots of traditional pub fare choices and all cooked excelently. We got a nice little booth overlooking the street. The sound track was 60s 70s whicjh I love!
Great theming and food and drinks. Though the themes are mostly surface level. Still worth the visit! Lots of great traditional Scottish food!
