Beautifully decorated. Lovely staff. Private room provided. An 18th birthday party with all differing ages. We did not know the room was timed, and as we all had travelled over 2.5 hours to get here, this was unfortunate, i generally would not pick this! We were offered to sit in bar but with 3 toddlers, this was not appropriate The burgers looked amazing. The steaks and fish and chips loved. The bar staff were knowledgeable.
We ate here tonight, and I was very excited to try here given the other positive reviews. However, I can't help but feel quite disappointed. I had the signature chicken burger, which took a very long time to arrive at the table, and then when it finally did it was overcooked and the buttermilk coating tasted burnt. I then requested a replacement, which then took another 30 minutes to arrive, by which point everybody else at the table had finished their meals. I was also told by a waitress that that is just how burgers are cooked... I've eaten plenty of burgers before and never have had this sort of issue, so felt like I was being gaslit into feeling guilty about raising an issue. I wasn't charged for this meal in the end, which is a bonus, but the replacement burger was barely any better and still quite overdone, although not quite as burnt tasting.nnThe staff were friendly, but were not knowledgable on the daily specials and kept having to go and ask, which when you are paying slightly more elevated prices for food you'd expect staff to know what is available.
What a great pub a credit to the staff and to joules who own it.nVery busy on Saturday night but the bar wait was minimal. Food was good if a little slow on the courses...obviously down to been so busy.nNot are 1st nor are last visit.nOne of Wellingtons few remaining jewels.
We decided to visit for Sunday lunch. The service was first class. Hubby had the beef and I had the turkey both delicious. Large portions, lovely fresh veg and all home cooked. The only thing that let the meals down is they were not hot. Plates and serving dish cold.
We had booked a table for our recently bereaved Nan for her 84th birthday.nNothing was any trouble for the very lovely staff. A lovely lady shown us to our booth where we decorated the table ourselves very simple and brought us some water for the table before asking if we would like anything to drink before the party arrived. They were aware that it was a special day and went above and beyond to make it great for our Nan. We ordered our food which was exemplary and had a few laughs afterwards. We lit a small cake for Nan and the lovely lady there asked if we look like a photo of us all, that was a fab photo!nAs myself and my sister paid the bill they bought out a dessert with “happy birthday” wrote on the plate which we were really impressed with…Nan loved it! All in all it was a good choice of restaurant to visit, my Nan loved her time there and nothing was too much trouble for the staff! We had an excellent time and I can’t recommend this place enough. Fantastic surroundings, atmosphere, lovely kind staff and a beautiful beef roast! I’ll be back 100%.
