My first visit today, on friend's recommendation. A fantastic beef pie with thick rich gravy and big chunks of beef. Will try the other varieties , as and when.....
62now,brought up on the Clarks pie. My gran, & grandad had a chip shop in St lukes rd Bedminster. Very close to Victoria Park. That would have been Early 60s, moved to Gloucester 63ish, my parents used to drive to Bristol for the Clarks pies.i still love them and allways try to get one if I'm in Bristol.
Pies are nice not the same as years, ago they have carrot in them now and I don't think they are as tasty either, made a nice change though haven't had a clarks pie in years, worth a go if you are passing by,
I've not had a Clarks pie for many years.Pastry was good and how I remember it but filling was too solid, no gravy running out and not much flavour or meat
Great pie's and pasties, fillings are full of flavour and the pastry is top notch especially the short crust. I wish I lived closer to Clark's as I'd be eating them all the time. A top score from me, my folks and grandfolks would say the same as Clark's have been pumping out quality pie's for decades. Clark's pie's need to expand, if they opened a shop in Brislington I'd keep that shop afloat all by myself.
Love this pie shop! So cheap and pies are so delicious
Best place to get pies in Bristol. Go in around 8.30 to get them nice and hot.
An institution in Bristol since 1935 and still going 84 years later. Several items including the Clarks Pie, Clarks Pasty, Flaky Pasty, Sausage Roll and so on. I am a fan of the Clarks Pasty. As they say shortcrust pastry, beef, potato and carrots. Filling, with thick crispy pastry and with a rich taste that always reminds me of a Beef Casserole but dry. Best recommended to eat on a plate with a knife and fork. Rather recommended if you need something hot in winter and they do heat up in the Microwave well. There is a substantial step to negotiate from the pavement but for the less able-bodied Clarks do help. Sold as they say in about 200 outlets. Chances are a takeaway in Bristol, most likely something from Clarks is on the menu. Can get very busy at times, especially on Match Days at Ashton Gate so there can a queue to get in. Open only to the afternoons so no chance of getting one directly in the evening. There are a number usually available hot depending on how early you get there or how busy they are. Recently they are able to accept card payments including contactless but mostly people pay cash. At times I find a Clarks Pasty makes a nice alternative to a burger or sandwich. By far my favourite pasty.
I grew up with these pies. Loved them for nearly 70 years. Asked mum to get them every time I came home. Then I moved back so I could buy my own. Heaven. But since they emerged from lockdown the gravy is lacking and the pies are dry. Everyone I know who loved them too agrees so it's not just me and my husband. What happened dear Clarks? I still buy them in hope but they're not the same
lovey home made pies. been going here for over 40 years. live in the Midlands now and always call in and pick up a box full. But I understand that they now do a buy on line service which I will be trying
