We spent time about 1 miles away from Clacton pier Holland bay. Free parking. Nice clean waters. Not very congested despite Bank holiday today. It's mix of pebbles and sand. Definitely recommended to folks in east and north London.

If you like the traditional English seaside then you will love this place. It pretty much has everything you have become accustomed to. Please be aware that if the weather is good, the beach will be packed

Great place for young children, but if you do go with kids make sure your pocket change is plenty it's easy to spend so much without realising. Good fish and chips as well! Nice fireworks display when it happens.

This couldn't be more English seaside if it tried! On a sunny day the pier is full and there is lots to do, be it the aquarium (currently under repair), 10 pin bowling, loads of arcades, helter skelter, fun fair which is aimed at under 10s in most parts, classic fun fayre games (fish for a duck where if you win a goldfish, yes they still do that)! Every turn is a winner so still isn't required, you just need to be prepared to pay. With kids, it's a lovely fun place to be. Without them, I think you'd wonder why you're here.

Although it has a bit of a reputation of being a poor relative of Walton Pier (just up the coast) there has been extensive modernization recently, meaning that the covered areas of the pier are very impressive. There is a wide selection of rides, arcade games, bowling and places to eat, making Clacton Pier a great venue for an afternoon or evening's activities.
