TL;DR: you will be there for several hours, opt to collect your passport, the staff are great but just remember to bring all of the required documents. Appointment times do not matter. Expect to be there for 3 or more hours. The staff who helped me with my application were so helpful and understanding. But, they are overworked since the visa centre is so busy all the time. I saw all of the staff trying their hardest to help everyone with any problems they had most of which were people not bringing the right documents. I opted for my passport to be posted back to me as I live too far to keep travelling to London. It seems they post everything together after they finish work on Friday, so if you get your passport posted to you it'd probably be the second Friday after your appointment. It's definitely better to collect to get your passport back sooner. Applying for a visa for any country can be really stressful, but overall I think the service from this visa centre is very good. Just know what to expect before you go.
Staff has bad attitude and try to teach me a lesson by clicking his pen and tossing the documents. However, he did seem to have a pleasant conversation with a foreigner non-Chinese applying for the Chinese visa. The website was not comprehensive in providing the guidance, which leads additional photocopy to do, which took me two hours to complete the whole process. Also the staff try to educate me about not to exploit due nationality, which I obviously did not because I came to apply for visa to visit my family in China, using my British passport! Also the application form that are required to fill online, does not seem to extract all the information I filled in, some which I need to fill manually. The visa centre is supposed to be the 'gate' for China, but it has shown a bad image, and let us down, absolutely disappointed about the service.
If you understand where to go as soon as you get in, then everything it's very efficient. My appointment was on Monday, and I was out in 40 minutes. Got my passport back on Friday and took me less than 20 minutes.
Info for those with two passports/ dual citizenship as I didn’t find much info online: you need to use the U.K. one as main passport on the application front page also then adding the details of the second one in the form. They take both passports and you can collect both when ready. Other advice: Book a morning appointment, be there 20 mins earlier Bring coins for the printer in case of any issues Only debit cards allowed for payment Have all documents printed, triple check everything!
Very professional and helpful. I had the visa in 4 days. The reception guy called Solomon is amazing. He is helpful and full of love and fun.
Picking up passports was a nightmare during lunchtime. The queue was very long and only one person was working and she also was having chit chat with another colleague who was not working at all.
It is not difficult to book appointments and the charge is not that expensive. Compare to European visa centre, this is far better in everything.
Great experience in the visa centre, Solomon the security guard keeps everyone's spirits high! The woman who processed my visa was also friendly.
Tourist visa.. Made an appointment for 9am 12th was out at 9.30am. New thing that's not on the web site you need a letter from your employer saying your employedI said I was self employed. I Collected my passport with the visa 3days later normal speed and was in and out in 5mins at 3pm on the 15th.
Had appointment for 11:15, finally saw someone at 13:50. Expect a long wait. Staff are friendly though
