China Boat

This is easily the worst Chinese dining experience I've ever had. The service was rude and the food was bad. The atmosphere was grim. On entering, the lady at the counter just stood there staring at us without greeting or asking how many of us to be seated. I walked into this place hungry but by the time I finished ordering, I've lost half of my appetite, then by the time I had the first bite of their food, I was ready to leave. Avoid this place like a plaque.

Rude service! As I came alone they pretended to be fully booked to seat me on the table they use for service what they also did in my presence in the entrance area, without tablecloth while all the other tables were having one. Couples coming after me were seated without hesitating at tables set for four, so it became clear, that nothing was booked at that time. Chinese people got a special menu with other dishes, which at my experience are more original and tasty. Do i need to mention that the price was not according to the service? There are a lot of other places in Windermere, so stay away from that one.

Avoid, avoid, avoid... Unless you want to waste your money. My husband and I had the starter platter for 2. The prawn toast was nice but the rest was rubbish. It stated seaweed on the platter but there was about a teaspoon full and then it was mixed with lettuce. Our food came out in dribs and drabs... My husband had finished his food and I was still waiting for mine. The sweet and sour chicken balls were over fried, dry and hard and the sauce was straight from the fridge. We had salt and chilli chips but they were refried and dry. There was another couple there that left their food and refused to pay. I have to be honest and say that this was the worst Chinese I have ever eaten in my life. Avoid at all costs

lovely service at this little restaurant, didn't have a meal i would usually have from the Chinese back at home, explained to them what it was and they made it for me.. was probably the nicest version of the dish I have had! top marks will go again if here in the future.

Pathetic! Horrible food . And worse , the rudest servers . I told the lady if. Our allergy and she said ‘ what can I do’ when I have my feedback on the meal she said ‘ ok fine ‘. I’m worried we will fall sick after this meal . It was that bad . And am worried sick about the ingredients they use . Pls avoid .

Thought I would order a takeaway tonight, as I walked in the lady was about to take my order but as I was having a quick look at the menu she then told me she was serving people who were in the restaurant and that I would have to wait 10 mins passed and she kept ignoring us completely just about to leave and she came over to take my order and told me it would be 15 mins so went for a walk and came back after 10 mins the order was waiting for me behind the counter . when I got it back home it was stone cold so I threw it straight in the bin will never go back again very rude and arrogant do yourselves a favour and avoid at all costs

We live in Windermere and always went to the China boat,never had cause for any critique ,THEN it changed hands ,the new guy who sits by the phone and the till counter is one of the most rude people of life ,always shouting in Cantonese ,and for the price they charge the portions leave a lot to be needed, we don't go near it now . They have ruined a good chinese Not the best by any means

Have you ever seen the Russian Roulette scene in 'The Deer Hunter'? Well dining in the New China Boat is like that except every chamber has a bullet, what I mean is it is worse than shooting yourself in the head in a foreign country thousands of miles from home surrounded by your worst enemies. When we entered we were greeted with a 'what are you looking at, I'll glass you and your kids in the face' kind of vibe. Then we were waited on by a guy that looked like he was rejected from playing the part of the terminator because he was TOO robotic and as we all know the Terminator is supposed to have SOME human characteristics. Then the food came out, well, put it like this, when we left there seemed to be a lot less pigeons and stray cats about. I could go on but I think I have food poisoning from The New China Boat and I have to go and defecate through the eye of a needle. The worst Chinese restaurant by far , small portions ,poor service ,and the guy behind the counter leaves a lot to be desired in customer relations , would we go again? Will hell freeze over? Does that sound indicative enough? We went to this restaurant many times over the years and it was always ok ,then the owners sold up to the people who have it now who have ruined it for sure.

I must say when I first visited this restaurant a mere 35 years ago I thought it was heaven, I visited 5 year later on our 5th anniversary and thought it had gone down. Now looking at reviews and all I see is rubbish, do not go there, just as well trip advisor is about these days as I am visiting Windermere next month and will not be visiting here.
