Spent a lovely afternoon celebrating special anniversary. We were given top floor. food was fantastic and they were so well-organised. This for me was a must for any social gathering where you are hosting a lot of people.
Really tasty, feel good roast . I had the mixed roast beef and pork-belly. Wasn’t sat by the window but the view is amazing of the ocean . Upstairs is much quieter then the pub below which makes a great atmosphere.
Back again to The Charles Dickens for the Salmon Niçoise. It is amazing. The view from the restaurant upstairs is fantastic, and great if you like people watching. Will definitely be back for another niçoise salad. Weekdays only Staff are lovely, very professional.
They serve a good full English breakfast here. Nice sea view. Free newspapers. A Thanet tavern.
It's a pub on the front in Broadstairs, it's the usual stuff to be honest. The bar is clean and tidy the decor fine, the carpet fine. Everything is fine but not exciting. What is there to say? They sell beer and the usual other drinks. Was there any fights? no. Any strippers and dancing girls? no. Any thing interesting at all? no. There is a fruit machine....If you want a drink in an unremarkable pub, with little to nothing else to say for itself then the Charles Dickens is the place or any other pub to be honest.
We fortunately come across this pub following a failed attempt to eat at a Toby Carvery. Toby was fully booked and the wife was getting hangry so I set to Google to find another establishment close by. I called the Charles Dickens and they was able to seat us 10 minutes later. We wasn't sure what to expect but they had a good selection of meals to choose from as well as a variety of roast dinners. Beef; Turkey; Leg of Lamb; Pork Belly and Nut Roast. They also offered a mixed roast consisting of two from the above. Not to blow our own trumpet, the Mrs and I cook a cracking roast and have come to accept that when having a roast dinner out, it is going to be below par - at least until we found The Charles Dickens in Broadstairs. The roast here was cooked to perfection. Good portions with flavour throughout. I had the beef and pork belly, both were tender and moist. The wife had beef and turkey which came with pigs in blankets and stuffing. Hats off to the chef's and the waiting staff for a great meal and enjoyable atmosphere. Keep it up! We will most certainly be coming back. Kid-friendliness: Staff were very accommodating and gave us enough space for a large pram and high-chair. Clean and spacious baby-change facilities.
A great meal last night. Portions very generous, well cooked and presented. Very friendly staff and atmosphere. Here on holiday and definitely a great place to eat. Well deserved 5 stars
Dined here this evening with a wonderful friend. The service was first class and the two ladies who served us were so friendly and polite. Sadly my food, the Mushroom Risotto was inedible. Having asked whether the risotto was creamy and been assured that it was, it turned out to be very dry and undercooked. It really wasn't very nice at all. They offered to replace it with something else, which they did, with no fuss and did not charge me. They went the extra mile to make up for the disappointment. Very impressive indeed. Will certainly go back, just not for risotto.
Great Sunday roast. The pork was excellent but get there early to get the best of the crackling. Very popular. Atmosphere only marked at 3 as we sat outside with the dogs, else top marks all round.Food: 5/5
First time visit and I'm kicking myself... Been missing out on a quality spot in Broadstairs. Price about normal not cheap but not OTT. Location amazing. Tasty starters calamari was probs on the ever so slightly bland side but the tiger prawns in Nduja butter were magnificent. Very well priced and generous seafood platter and a top notch Sunday roast. Washed down with a Beavertown Neck Oil.
