Excellent customer service from entering the shop not knowing what i wanted owner was very patient, chatty explained what was going to happen, measured my staircase next day carpet fitted within a week, fitter did an excellent job highly recommend and will go back for any future carpets reasonably priced too thank you
So we decided to use Chappells Carpets a few months ago. Reason being, we own a shop and it’s good to always support your local business. So we thought. We have advised Chappells that we had a few doors that would require skimming in order for the carpet to fit so the door would open with ease. We agreed that if we chose the same carpet lounge carpet was more expensive to be used in the hallway that he would get the fitter to sort the skimming of the doors out for us otherwise we would have bought cheaper and thinner carpet for the hallway. When the fitter came, we advised him that in the lounge, speaker cable would need to be laid under the carpet before it was laid. He told me that he has done many properties who have requested the same. To cut a long story short, the fitter ruined my Fisual Havana phono plugs that i used to connect the subwoofer with. He also ruined two sections of my QED Genesis speaker cable. I had to remove the carpet to replace the cables as my home theatre would not work due to the damage caused to the cables. This was just one of the issues i had to deal with. The second was, the fitter decided to lay the carpet down and then chip the bottom of the doors in the hallway. We advised him to do this outside the apartment as he was going to ruin freshly laid carpet. He refused and told my wife that it would be more difficult to remove the dust from outside as the carpet was thinner?? He didn’t even clean any of the mess up and then had the audacity to charge us £20.00. The amount of saw dust that was left on freshly laid carpet was absolutely disgusting. My wife who was pregnant at the time, had to get on the floor and use a small suction hoover to get rid of the majority of saw dust. I had to find a local cleaner which cost me £150 which was £50 each time that she came to clean the dust down in the property. When we complained to Chappells, the owner said he would contact us with regards to the issues but to this day has failed to rectify these issues we brought to his attention. We also got quoted for brand new carpet strips to be laid but when the fitter was laying the carpet we questioned why new strips weren’t being laid to which he told us, the ones that are already there are suffice? The owner had quoted us with brand new carpet strips that hold the edges of the carpet down so for them to not lay new ones down is unacceptable. Another thing i need to mention is that, if you do live in a flat/apartment, this company doesn’t take away your old carpet. So this is something you need to bare in mind when using larger companies ie Carpet Right etc. In all honesty, the carpet is of good standard and was laid very well. I’ve had to leave this honest review for those who are contemplating on using Chappells to read my review and be cautious before handing over your hard earned money. For the sake of saving a hundred pound or so, you would be better off using a company like Carpet Right who i used originally on a previous property.
Chapells Carpets is my go-to company, for all flooring matters. They’ve got very knowledgeable staff, in a very well-established independent shop.
