I took my cousin here for the afternoon and we loved it. The volunteer staff were friendly and welcoming and made sure we were alright. The place is very quaint and easy to find, located near Needham it's close to Ipswich which for us was a plus coming from Ipswich! We have had plenty of cuddles with the cats and had a cat Shadow took a shine to me, and Marlon to Jasmine on our lap pretty much all afternoon. Persia was a delight to watch scamper and and cause mischief! The drinks were lovely and the cake, which I was told after we had ordered had been baked by volunteers was absolutely divine! Overall a lovely visit! Would absolutely come again!
An upsetting and disturbing experience - poop and all! Family had visited and I was intrigued, so I went with a friend who booked us in. The Café lived up to their 1 star food hygiene score and worse! Apart from cats on tables, trying to eat any food ordered, the place stank! Not just a whiff of cat litter here and there, but a strong smell of urine and faeces. Not enough to assail my nose with cat excrement – there it was to assault the eyes!…. curled neatly in a gooey pile on the floor under one of the sofas! No mop or brush had clearly met that area for a while, as right next to the poo pile, was a dusty little mouse toy! I was utterly nauseated…just to top off receiving food that was completely different to my order, that was stale into the bargain! The two volunteer staff seemed friendly enough and kindly offered me and my friend who also did not get what she ordered a money off voucher. But they clearly had never been trained and seemed utterly clueless about much else. They didn’t even admit to knowing what sex the cats were, let alone ages, histories…! They didn’t wear proper aprons as you might expect to serve food and God forbid if they cleaned the area up – their cleaning materials were being nibbled and tugged at by cats. The marigolds and cloths had been loosely dumped in an open box on the top of the enclosed cat toileting area. Whoever might know what germs were crawling about, especially if kids were to eat or visit there! The café apparently welcomes children – not a great combination with cats in my estimation! The cats gambled about, on and off tables, but I if you could call that happy. One a little grey cat, sat absolutely still on a shelf for ages, barely moving, which struck me as a bit odd. She didn't look up or respond to sound or people walking by - I just hope she/he was okay. We asked about the little mite, but no one seemed to know much about him/her! Another cat joyed in putting his tail in my friend’s tea. Surely the place should segregate eating areas from the cat petting area. I love cats and have my own – surely keeping them in such conditions is far from ideal. I had hoped for better. The cats eating bowls looked scummy and certainly not clean. I can’t imagine it is a great place for cats and it certainly isn’t for humans! Seriously, this place is scandalous. It still cost us a fiver each to get in – for what?... to risk your health, see a few cats on tables and their poo adorning the floor. Definitely avoid!
I have visited the Cat cafe several times. All the cats appear happy and look healthy. There are areas where the cats can sit to escape the humans if they want. The cafe always looks clean and the early problems with odour have now largely gone. I know there has been criticism of this cafe on some social media sites. While the welfare of the cats must be the top priority any concerns raised must be fair and balanced . I fear that this has not always been the case. I do feel the owners are prepared to address any concerns.
Went for an afternoon tea with my daughter and it was basic. Didn’t help that they decided to clean the litter trays just before we ate, it stunk!! Didn’t find the cats in the least friendly not one came up to us. Apart from when we started eating!! The ladies who run this cafe are lovely and friendly and I applaud their reasons for running this venue. But wouldn’t recommend or return for the afternoon teas!!
OMG Holly Bates see review below... this happened to us today too!!! We had booked a table for mothers day and drove 2 cars 35 minutes to get there. We brought our 3 and 5 year olds who were very excited to see the cats. Obviously my wonderful mum too. This was supposed to be a much deserved treat for her. When we arrived all the tables were full and the waitress who apologised was a wet lettuce. I asked to see the manager and was offered complimentary afternoon tea at a later date. Unfortunately this didn't help us with no-where to go on Mother's Day and 2 disappointed toddlers. Absolutely shocking that this could happen! Is over -booking a habit here I wonder? I'm fuming.
RIDICULOUS booked a table for mothers day 2 weeks before the date, even went in the weekend before to talk it over. Arrived and they didnt have enough room and had booked too many people in! I even recieved the ‘Friendly reminder about your booking’ email the day before. The girl behind the counter thought it was hilariously funny, told us to come back in an hour. The manager who had done the booking would not come out of the kitchen to apologise, instead we were told by the volunteer to leave! The WORST SERVICE and i will never be coming back here or recommending this hole to anyone. Thank you for ruining mothers day.
Love Catastrophe Cat Cafe for a very relaxing coffee and cake with comforting cuddles with the cats. A very calming and soothing experience. The Gemma, Lauren and the volunteers are fantastic.
If you love cats, you'll love this. Food is good but it's the cats you go for. Well looked after cats and staff are friendly.
Brilliant idea, nice people, the food could be improved and perhaps more could be done to aerate the cafe area.
I would just like to let anyone know who may be unaware, but this cat cafe shut on the 1 st June 2018
