What a great day out! A tour around the castle proved really interesting and included an exhibition of films and TV shows set at the castle. A delicious lunch in the café and then a walk around the wonderful park, by the lake and through the woodland. Some great follies to investigate. The walled garden is stunning and peaceful. All in all, a great destination.
At £25 a head it is not a cheap day out although the gardens were very interesting and colourful. The house was good but would have been nicer to have seen more behind the scenes. Lunch in the cafe was tasty and not too expensive and the rest of the grounds meant you could easily pass a few hours.
Well worth a visit. Didn't know much about it so the house condition was a bit of a surprise, but interesting nonetheless. Gardens good for wandering. Had wanted to visit last year but was closed, turns out some godawful-looking American reality show was being filmed.
Wonderful country house with exceptional grounds and gardens. The volunteers who are stationed in various rooms are knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to and their enthusiasm is infectious. It's fascinating to see how many movies and TV series have been filmed there
Stunning, Beautiful, Fantastic..... Such a great morning spent exploring the house and gardens. The love the family still have for their ancestral home is so easy to see and to know that they still come and live there when they can is fantastic. The guides were all extremely helpful and pleasant which was great considering how many visitors they see. My favourite rooms were the libraries where the volumes are enticing you to pull up a chair and read...... We will be back!!!
Fantastic grounds to walk around. Plenty of food and drink outlets but fairly expensive such as £5 odd for a sandwich when you have already paid to come onto the grounds. A great car show was on when we arrived , so that was an extra bonus also meant extra toilets too .
Although the main building of the castle was closed to the public during our visit yet we could sense the grandeur of this place. Spread over 1000 acres, this is a worth visiting place. The gardens were meticulously maintained.
So beautiful, i went there on normal day Monday not much tourist. Stayed there 3 hrs to look around and walk. Value for money to pay because you'll see how the beautiful is in this place and see the story long long time ago. Lots photo I took but just some to show. So come to see from your eyes. You will love it.
We went to the 'into the woods' Christmas experience. It was magical. Really pretty. Lots of beautifully decorated rooms and stunning trees, all with a fairytale theme. On the way out of the house we stopped for some really tasty hot food. Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
Great place to relax, have a long walk or to learn something new. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff around the estate. Beautifully maintained gardens and plenty of stops for a bite to eat or something to drink. The only really negative observations I could make is lack of adequate signage in Ray Wood and tables and chairs covered in bird poo at Boathouse restaurant. Please pay a visit.
