Carluccio's
"Carluccio’s began life in 1991 when Antonio and Priscilla opened their food shop in Neal Street, bringing the finest quality regional Italian food to London. They carefully wrote each label by hand and explored the length and breadth of Italy to find the best ingredients. In 1999 they opened the first Carluccio’s Caffè in Market Place – an authentic Italian restaurant in the truest sense of the word, and a continuation of their successful food shop."

The food was pretty good, particularly enjoyed the focaccia bread starter. Service was a little slow at times but friendly. I didn't find the atmosphere particularly relaxing but it was OK. I liked that the restaurant seemed to be family friendly, with several groups with young children present.Food: 4/5
Staff very friendly and kind. Food quality questionable but overall not bad. Noodles overcooked and sauce taste with previously cooked fish. King prawns texture spot on with fantastic home made focaccia. Cod had nice crispy skin.Food: 3/5
A shadow of its former self. Nice staff but my chips were cold and they are clearly struggling. We go in every year on my birthday but I think this may have been our last visit until they get their act together. The high prices do not reflect the quality of the experience.Food: 2/5
Very poor There were 7 of us, thought we would try somewhere different before going to the comedy club at the Apex. Waitress was unwelcoming, food had to go back as cold and was tasteless. I suppose now I know why it's empty. Not really worth 1 star
Carluccio's in Bury St Edmunds was absolutely amazing, great food, friendly and professional staff, wonderful atmosphere with good choice of music,we enjoyed every minute there and will definitely go back. Wonderful experience, thank you so much to the whole team.Food: 5/5
The food was nice but the waiter seemed to have a bit of an attitude with the staff which left a sour taste in my mouth. He also brought our bill to us unprompted while my partner still had a full drink, I was planning on getting another drink. I dunno, just seemed a bit unprofessional. Other than that, I think it was pretty good and maybe he was having a bit of an off day.
Bury St Edmunds is bustling. Couldn't get a table anywhere. Got one at Carluccios. Now I saw why. I used to love this restaurant back in the day. But since the takeover it's got worse and worse. Tonight was a combination of the most lacklustre of services and average food. The menu has been reduced dramatically but even then, one of the starters wasn't available. My wife asked for her favourite - the Penne Giardiniere - but the spinach balls weren't available. She was offered chicken instead despite it being a vegetarian dish. The waitress/manager never asked if we had any allergies either! Throughout the meal, our empty cans and glasses stood and we're never cleared. We weren't even asked if we wanted more drinks! Considering they need to sell as much as possible, this was crazy. We would have ordered more but apart from asking once as to how our meal was, there was no interest in our table. The Cannoli dessert was squidgy instead of crispy and comped. Worst of all, the manager had accidentally charged us for an entire bottle of Prosecco for £35.00 instead of the single glass £7.50. This was taken off with a brief apology but she did not seem to really care about such a spectacular mistake. It could have easily been overlooked in a bill for 5 people. It was almost a mistake too difficult to make by accident. The decor has been neglected. Most of the light bulbs are dead or hanging out of the sockets. The restaurant was near empty when we left at 21:30pm. The staff were cleaning and tidying up most of the time. In fact, they did this with more intent than checking on the customers. It will be interesting to see what restaurant moves in next.
Very poor experience here today. A real kack of customer service. There were 6 people sat in the restaurant, staff were not paying attention and kept just disappearing. We waited for over 20 minutes once we had finished our mains. We wanted desert and coffee but decided just to get up and pay. The waitress asked where we had been sitting I told her the reason she didn't know was because no one was serving customers. Shockingly poor and a really urgent staff training regime needs to be introduced.
Terrible!! Food was overcooked and far from fresh. Sent back the calamari as it was tough, a sure sign it was frozen. The sea bass, if that's what it was, was overcooked and not like any sea bass I've ever had. Over priced at £50 for two, including drinks. Stear clear! If it's a good meal you want, this is not the place! Dear sir. You asked me to contact your manager over a week ago. Which I have done by the email that you sent me. I have had no reply or any correspondence from your manager in response to your answer to my review. I think your manager needs training in customer service and to answer questions on why the food was so terrible. I don't think we will ever return again to your restaurant and we will let our friends know not to go to Carluccio's, as we found the food and management not up to a standard we would look for in a restaurant in the centre of Bury St Edmunds.
Obviously Carluccios is a chain restaurant, but often it's the staff that make the difference in a place like this. Carluccios Bury At Edmunds us one of those places. Great service and attentive staff, good work in the kitchen producing consistent dishes make this an excellent place to eat. Admittedly the decor is looking a little tired and dated, but the location, the big picture windows and the deli full of deliciousness make up for these minor gripes. Good value, tasty food, with great service. What more could you ask for?
