About

Italian Restaurant

Story

The approach to food at Caravaggio is based upon a commitment to using only the finest and freshest ingredients, with the restaurant employing its own buyer to search out the very best produce, rather than depend exclusively upon its suppliers. Faliero Lenta has re-invented the classic Italian menu, insisting that everything be home-made with assiduous attention to detail. Consequently, the pasta is sublime and the risotto a revelation.

Antipasti includes the wonderful combination of San Daniele ham, matured over18 months and accompanied by poached pear, and sensational carpaccio with girolle mushrooms and shaved parmesan. City diners have a healthy appetite for meat dishes which include, roasted belly of pork with crushed potatoes, broccoli, celeriac and a honey and cinnamon sauce; fillet of veal with mixed wild mushrooms and Madeira sauce. But without a doubt, the best and fullest flavoured fillet steak to be found in the square mile is served here with aubergine and gorgonzola cheese - exquisite indulgence for the carnivores! However, the freshest fish is also in abundance with fresh crab, wild sea bass and black Arctic cod featuring regularly; so all tastes are catered for and the regulars, of which there are many, never get bored.

The dedication Faliero and his brigade bring to the task of food preparation shines through in every dish and is apparent on the weekly-changing set menu, which represents a bargain that the cognoscenti are prepared to cross town for.

The wine list at Caravaggio is probably the most comprehensive collection of Italian wines in all London, with more than a hundred bins selected from all the key regions and including some remarkable exclusives, such as 'Il Vino Di Una Notte' - 'the wine of one special night' - a fruity rosé from the shores of Lake Garda that is particularly charming. This being a City restaurant, the list opens with a short selection of half bottles for those who have to work after lunch.

Our menus change regularly and we are therefore unable to guarantee that dishes described here will be available all year round. Please take a look at our menu for confirmation of dishes currently available.

We thank everyone involved in the preparation and presentation of our meal on monday evening, it was exceptional in every way and added so much to our enjoyment . We will certainly be coming again and we have no hesitation in recommending you to all our friends
My partner booked for a lunch at the place. The menu was provided without any markers for vegetarian/vegan options. When asked to recommend food, the main waiter seemed quite disappointed with the fact that we are looking for vegetarian food at his restaurant. He recommended us 5 things including starters and mains, and when I asked why is he recommending duck egg as an option, he was quizzical and confirmed ‘so you want vegan’? The service was fine. And the two things we ordered was awful! It wasn’t salty, or had the necessary seasoning. It is the worst meal I have had in London. The ravioli had weird bitter sweet taste. I am quite disappointed that I wasted over £50 of my hard earned money at a place where I felt nothing but judged on ordering vegetarian. And there is a reason, because the food is awful. Never recommend to anyone!
Possibly the worst dining experience I have had in London for some time. The service was very poor. We were a business party of 5. Bread rolls were brought out which were barely sufficient. Had to ask for olive oil and balsamic vinegar. One very small saucer was presented for 5 of us to share. The waitress had zero etiquette. The food is bang average. The menu options very limited. There should be an option for zero stars on here. Even that would be generous.
Excellent food, some less experienced staff. But great for a business lunch.
Second time here and really nice atmosphere with traditional service.Food: 5/5
We had a great lunch here. Lots of items on the menu that sounded good. And when the food turned up it was delicious. Best meal out for ages. Staff were efficient and pleasant. We'll be going back!
A bit noisy and slow service during lunch hours. Tasty food.
The food was exceptionally tasty. The service was efficient and professional. It's a shame we had an appointment otherwise we would have had a dessert! Looking forward to going back again.
Of course you can rave about the food, which is excellent but this place took service to the next level. They were funny, friendly but also very polite and jystbgot the level of attentiveness bang on!
Sorry to say, I am disappointed. The restaurant has no soul. No music, no vibrance, no consumers; an I understand why now. The salmon and sea bass were simplistic, the octopus tasteless. The risotto, plain, was appealing as tasteful. A experience worth memorising.
