Used car electrical a few times for a range of vehicle issues, always friendly and a massive help and always bang on with the work, they get you booked in quickly and get the job done Highly recommended
In summary; Expensive, vague invoice, poor customer service and phone manners except when chasing the bill and questionable labour costs. £75 per hour labour, London prices and even then, dubious labour times put on jobs; apparently they told my usual garage they were doing diagnostics for nearly 8 hours, and then they told me on the phone it was 4-5hrs, and at £75 an hour this is a CONSIDERABLE difference. Car was taken to them by a local trusted garage which, because of this experience I now also have doubts about for electrical diagnostics they could not do. Their demeanor on the phone was short to say the least when they called to inform me that the electrics in the car seemed fine, therefore there was likely a problem with the alternator, and that it would be £1460 to fix. No other explanation was given, no breakdown of costs or how they came to such a figure, and it is an awful lot of money for 'likely'. The part required costs £675 from Halfords my garage quoted 620 + VAT, and apparently 'just getting the diagnostics box out costs £45' which means they were going to charge for roughly 9 hours of labour, therefore they are charging 4-5hours to change the alternator, a job that can be done in at most 2 hours. I will add, the car's battery is charging fine and I have had zero signs the alternator needs replaced. My car was taken to the garage to find out why the ECO mode was off and the service light on. I have attached their invoice for purely diagnostic checks that didn't change anything. This was already haggled by my garage to get labour costs down, and on the phone they claimed they had charged less than they should. Notice how nothing specific is listed in the invoice. Labour costs, getting the £45 diagnostics they mentionedonly when questioned on the phone why it was this price, nothing is specifically listed and priced. A lack of transparency makes this untrustworthy.
Required a broken car horn to be fixed. I phoned on Thursday morning, and they squeezed me in the next day. The horn was fixed within 2 hours of me dropping off the car.
EDIT: I see CarElectrical have responded to my review so I will be including my response to their reply at the very bottom of my review. Instrument Cluster Failure on a Mk2 focus, requires a fairly basic soldering job that involves about 1-2 hours of work including disassembly and reassembly of the cluster. Extremely common fault on these cars that can cause fear in some drivers due to the nature of the problem including an "engline malfunction message" on the dash as well as being unable to get the engine running. Was quoted £350 and 4-5 working days for them to send it off to get it repaired... Took me 5 minute to find a place I could send it to, get it fixed for £50 and get it back the next day. Based on this experience alone I'd avoid this place like the plague and will never ask them for their assistance again. A basic soldering job does not justify £350 and 4-5 working day turnaround. Don't let yourself be exploited by a cowboy, make sure you do your research before committing to any work being done else you could find yourself being rinsed to bits by companies like this. EDIT: My response to their reply on my review. Firstly, I am well aware of all the costs involved. My point is that an autoelectrician shouldn't have to send off a faulty part to get repaired when that vehicle is one of the most produced vehicles in the UK, the fault is one of the most common found on said vehicle, and the fault can be easily remedied by a basic soldering job. It would have taken you less than a day to pop it out and do the soldering required. Those costs you are complaining about could have been significantly reduced had you took it upon yourself to do the basic soldering job required instead of trying to milk the customer for all you could. 2 These "dodgy jobs" on ebay are privately owned companies with their own garages, have over 99% success rate on their respective e-commerce pages, as well as much better and more assuring reviews than what have been left on CarElectrical google reviews where many people are echoing the exact same sentiment as I have. In addition, these garages offer WRITTEN and legally binding guarantees where if your cluster is broken as a result of their work then they will remedy it at no extra charge, including if that work results in you needing a new cluster and as such a new key linked with that cluster due to the nature of the focus' immobilizer. 3 This issue is so incredibly easy to fix that many people who have never soldered before have managed to watch a YouTube video, learned how to solder in the process, and fixed this exact problem. The most common fault as a result of attempting to fix this issue is when people haven't taken the needles off of the gauges correctly and it results in an inaccurate reading. 4 Even in the extremely unlikely event of me sending my cluster off to a £50 repair service on ebay and them breaking it, that company not upholding their written guarantees and warranty, me then paying for a new key and cluster to be linked together, would have still ended up cheaper or around the same asking price as CarElectrical's whopping £350. 5 Final note on the dodgy ebay cluster repair listings you were referring to. One of them is £55 including return delivery. Over the last 12 months on ebay, this particular garage has 580 positive feedbacks, 1 neutral, and 5 negative. On their cluster repair service listing alone they have over 510 transactions and at the bottom of their listing you can clearly read their warranty and guarantees for peace of mind. If you go to google reviews and look at the reviews for their garage, they have a 4.9 star rating across 43 reviews which is obviously far better than what CarElectrical's current rating. So I ask you this, if you were in my position, who would you trust? Not to mention the fact that your whole point of "We charge that much because our business partner is insured and we can trust them" is automatically made invalid with this in mind. You can make excuses all you want, you tried it on and failed. Simple as that.
Jammed open sunroof on my sons Mini, initially we were told the repair parts would be upwards of £2k that’s more than the car was worth! so the lads just tried to get it closed but I got a call telling me that’s not possible either! A couple of hours later I got another call informing me that they had managed to get it closed and secure! I’m delighted with the lad’s efforts and I can’t recommend this company high enough, and for their efforts it didn’t cost a fortune, myself and my son are very happy with the outcome, Thank youCar Electrical !!!
After my van broke down they were able to see and fix it at really short notice. They carried out the repair quickly and at a very fair price. They also carried out other repairs which once again were very fairly priced. Overall I was impressed with the level of service received and will be using them again for smaller issues I have with the van. They seem knowledgeable in what they do. Wholly recommended. Thank you.
Always very helpful and knowledgeable, whenever I've been. Always, sorted my cars electrics out and prices aren't too bad overall. It's the 1st place I go, if I need electrical car problem diagnosed and/or sorted. They sell and install car audio/video and HID headlights as well.ServicesElectrical
I have dealt with Car Electrical on several occasions now and they have always sorted with my problems swiftly and with expertise. I have never felt that their pricing was unfair and feel confident that I am getting a quality replacement part for the right cost every time. Couldn't recommend enough. Cheers!
Can't fault these guys. Did a great job fitting my spot lights and will be going back for my CB radio and head unit soon. Well done.
Very good customer service and knowledgable staff. Very helpful- have confidence and am pleased with repairs- although auto-electrics costly everywhere when done properly and guaranteed- would recommend and will return when necessary
