My second visit, first Sunday lunch… wow! Lush! Proper homemade roast, just what we needed! Crispy roast potatoes & parsnip, tender meat, creamy cabbage, green beans & swede & carrot mix… all the trimmings & tasty gravy . Choice of portion sizes. Oh… staff were lovely too!
We chose this place as they had 'hook up's' for our motorhome and we will definitely be coming back. The pub is historic and quaint with a nice beer garden, the staff were friendly and the food was amazing. We came as a couple, but families/children were made welcome and so were dogs in certain rooms. Even the locals made us feel welcome.
Excellent meal. Starter was salmon and prawns, tomatoe soup delicious followed by Sunday roast, both lamb and pork melted in the mouth. Cracking was lush. Apple pie and custard to finish was really tasty. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Looking forward to our next visit
Nice little pub. Was convinced to try the pie and was not disappointed. Although having everyone clearing up to close before 9 kinda made us feel like we couldn't enjoy more of the decent selection of ales behind the bar. All in all, not a bad experience and would definitely like to revisit.
Love this pub, great find, opposite a petrol station. Love that it was the last pub that horse and carriages visited. Called the California because that's where people met to emigrate to California. Landlord/owner will tell you about the history. Lots of little snippets of history. Food amazing, very tasty. Friendly and cosy, will seek this pub out again if I'm in the area
All round great pub / restaurant. The staff were lovely when I made a booking for Sunday lunch. When we arrived early for our table they had it sorted straight away and remembered we needed a highchair. Food was served quick and delicious. Would highly recommend.
Popped into garage for petrol and spotted pub sign saying open. Lovely little garden. Very attentive host and fantastic food. Highly recommend fish and chips with home made batter. So light and crunchy. Couldn't resist pudding too
Very friendly staff and owners that couldn't do enough for their customers. The food was excellent with a home made quality that tasted like a festive treat. It's a taste I'd be more then willing to travel for again. They don't have any alternative dairy products for teas and coffees.
Haven't been here for several years. I believe its under new owners food was really good along with the service. Toilet needs a bit of looking after not the cleanest experience bit would definitely go back again and food value for money.
A Pub in the sticks... I arrived at 12.40 1 table occupied and by 1.32 now it is ¾ full. I had a couple of pints of Jail Ale, mid Amber/dark golden. A rather moreish drink full bodied. The Steak and Ale pie was so tender, the 3 green veg was on the Firm side but delicious and the new potatoes full of flavour. The only criticism... For me over seasoned that has left a salty taste... Still another pint or 2 will wash that away. A warm friendly pub. That is now full no prize for guessing why.
