Less than impressed. Went out for dinner with the Mrs, she had been looking forward to this as I'd never been cafe rouge. Start with the positive things, the staff where friendly and helpful. They have a good selection of food and drink, with a cheap set menu or normal full menu. We both had steak, the steak was cooked right and enjoyable. However I felt the amount we spent the food should have been better. The rhubarb and ginger pudding thing I had was bland and mushy. It was small and tasteless. The seat was dirty and the sides where dirty . I personally won't be bothered about going back. There was a bit of food on one of the boarders . This is basic hygiene and cleaning. The glass I was given for my beer was covered in water marks.
The food was excellent and good value for money, the staff were cheerful and attentive. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the price of the drinks, £2.50 for a small coke and £5 for a pot of tea for 2. Overall a great place and I would definitely go there again.
Went for a 21st birthday. Contacted them ahead of the event and the staff put balloons on the table and all signed a birthday card for the birthday boy. Food always good. Great night. Can't thank the staff enough they are amazing
A little bit expensive and the service can be a little slow, but to be honest the food is really really good, no wonder it's been here for as long as it has been as they do serve high quality food. Try the Croques they are amazing.
The wait for our food was borderline too long with the restaurant less than half full, the staff at the bar were very noisy banging glasses around and our order was wrong. Not worth the money either so we won't be going back.
Nice French restaurant in a great location in Leicester. Just outside of the highcross shopping centre with plenty of bars and a cinema near by. Friendly staff and nice food, service is usually fairly quickly. Only real downside we have found is there is always something we try to order that they don't have, sometimes it's drinks and others food.
Good food but the service and the little fly's everywhere let it down
Awful customer service!! The first time my friends and I went there we were offered a drinks menu, served our drinks and ignored for 2 hours. My friend’s glass broke and they still ignored us. Second time round nothing was different about their service and their food was burnt and awful. Our cocktails tasted like pure juice with ice and none of the mentioned alcoholic drinks. I’m hurt I had to give them my 1 star. They don’t deserve any. Everyone else around us was being served quicker than us on both occasions which has left me feeling extremely angry. Even reading reviews I cannot see anything similar to our experience. When I complained about my burnt burger the manager just looked at me and said a very forced sorry.
We have eaten at various Cafe Rouge restaurants and never had a bad experience until today. We were shown to a table that only had one set of cutlery, the waitress said she would bring more. We placed our order after which she returned with a selection of knives, forks and spoons which she deposited on the table. The restaurant was not busy so I had expected her to set the places however she disappeared. The starters arrived and we of the same standard that we have come to expect. The plates were cleared away and we waited for our main course....and waited.....and waited...and waited. Tables around us were filling and their starters and mains were arriving and being cleared away. We managed to attract the attention of our waitress and asked her to check where our main courses were. She scurried off to the kitchen and returned a few seconds later...no apology just told us 5 more minutes. If we hadn't have had limited time it wouldn't have been an issue but we had tickets for a 7.30 show, we arrived at the restaurant at 5.35 and left at 7.05 having just eaten a starter and main course, an hour and a half should have been long enough to enjoy a relaxed meal. Disappointing service and communication tonight.
Really good food, and really nice staff. Just really slow service. If you have no time restraints then it shouldn't be a problem. However we waited around 2.5 hours for our meal. And there were hardly any people in there so can't understand why. Such a shame because if the service was quicker it would be great
