Recently Jan 2026, I had to visit Llangefni for a couple of days, and needed a local hotel. The Bull seemed to be the main only? hotel in the town centre, so I booked a single courtyard room for 2 nights via the hotel website. This looked ideal – no lugging heavy bags upstairs – just straight out of the car and into the room.nAfter arriving in Llangefni at around 5.30pm, I popped into the hotel reception to check in, and that’s when things started to go wrong.nApparently, the room I had booked was now unavailable, so they’d given me a room on the first floor. Not what I wanted, but I suppose it would have to do for a couple of nights.nThen I was informed that they currently had no kitchen staff, and were therefore unable to provide breakfasts or evening meals. In fact, no meals at any time!nThe hotel had my phone and email details on the booking form. If they had contacted me regarding their kitchen situation, I probably would have cancelled, and sought accommodation elsewhere.nLooking around the town for places to eat, all I could find were various dismal and unappealing takeaways; an Indian restaurant and a chippy, both closed on that particular evening - Sunday; plus a few cafes that were never open in the evenings. Spar shop to the rescue!nOther Issues:nMy room 7 had the smallest en-suite I have ever seen in a hotel. The toilet was only usable at an angle use your imagination, as it was jammed up against the very tiny washbasin. The shower was just about large enough for me, but I am quite small. I think a larger person might find it very difficult using these facilities. In addition, there was no shelving on which to put toiletries etc., no towel rail, no toilet roll holder, no soap dish in the shower, and no power outlet for an electric shaver or toothbrush.nThe light in the en-suite supposedly switched on automatically when you entered, and went off again when you left. This seemed to have a mind of its own though, and switched on and off randomly as I moved around the bedroom. But when I was actually using the toilet or shower, the light would then switch itself off after about a minute, leaving me in the dark! Suggestion: How about having an actual light switch??nAt around 10am the next day I went out, and left the “please service my room” card on the door handle. Returning to the hotel late afternoon, I noticed that this was still where I had left it, and the room hadn’t been touched.nThis bedroom felt permanently cold even though the radiator was hot, and on the second final morning I discovered why. There had been some heavy rain during the night, and when I opened the curtains, there was a pool of water on the window sill. Obviously a poorly sealed window was letting in the cold air and the rain.nBy now I was desperate to get away from this place, and just wanted to go home, so I couldn’t be bothered to go through all these issues with the hotel before I left. However, I did mention the leaky window as I was checking out, and they appeared to be already aware of it. The response was along the lines of “Oh yes, we must get that looked at some time”. I think that statement just about sums up their overall attitude!nThe Bull’s official star rating is rather ambiguous. It’s shown as 4-star on Google but 3-star on Visit Wales and Trip Advisor. Confusing.nIn addition to the issues already mentioned; I would have expected a 3 or 4 star hotel to have a phone in the bedroom, and a properly staffed reception desk. Neither of these facilities was evident at the Bull. On checking in and checking out, I had to go and get someone from the bar. I never saw anyone on the reception desk at any time during the two days I was there.nOn reading other reviews, The Bull appears to have been satisfactory in the past, even quite recently. But I certainly couldn’t recommend it to anyone based on my experience.nWhatever their rating might be, this place needs to buck their ideas up. I paid £184 for a 2 night stay room only – no meals, and I was definitely not impressed.
We had a fantastic stay at The Bull hotel again, we stayed for 4 nights and could have stayed longer. Staff are amazing in this hotel, friendly and helpful at all times. Rooms are clean and comfortable. This hotel is located perfectly for visitors who wish to explore the beautiful island of Anglesey Ynys Môn . I really cant speak highly enough of this hotel and its hard working staff. Thank you again Emrys, diolch yn fawr.
The Bull Hotel looked interesting from outside. We didn't stay there but stopped for a light meal one evening as we were passing through Llanefni.nI had the basket of cod goujons cooked in a beautifully light beer batter and chips. It was excellent value for money.nMy husband had Nachos and melted cheese and bacon. He enjoyed that too.nThe lady who served us was very welcoming. The service was a little slow, but we were told this may be the case as there was a large group of people who had just ordered. We weren't in a hurry so it didn't matter and being told was appreciated.nThe restaurant area did look a little dated, but we were there for the food and not the decor.
Nice hotel, bit dated with furniture in the rooms, but centrally located and friendly staff. Can get noisy on Saturday nights from pubs opposite. Meals were good in The Bull's restaurant.
Had carvery in the beer garden. Great service - they even gave our dog some sausages while we ate! Perfect location for our trip around Anglesey.
