Brockley's Rock is a local fish and chips takeaway. They also do other fried fish like calamari and whitebait. If you don't want fried fish you can get grilled fish. There's a takeaway menu of specials. When we went on a Thursday in mid- October the specials were hake, honey-glazed salmon & sweet potato fishcakes and Thai fishcakes. They have vegan and gluten free options! There's a whole vegan menu in fact, including a vegan fish steak. Alongside your fish, "fish" or other non-fish mains you can get various sides. These include the traditional mushy peas and a homemade tartare sauce. The tartar sauce was pretty cheap, much cheaper than the curry sauce in fact. Not sure how much you get though. We saw they had recently been named by a newspaper online as one of the best fish and chips in London. We decided to go and try it for ourselves. We ordered 2 cod, regular chips, a battered sausage and curry sauce. It cost £27. The flavour was nice. The fish is fresh and the batter on point. The chips ok, but were more on the soft side and no crunchy/crispy ones. The battered sausage was not bad, but a little dry inside. The curry sauce was thick and moreish. They have a system where the delivery drivers pick up outside through a window. You can order inside for takeaway or to eat in. They also do orders over the telephone. Follow here and on IG for more travel and food and drink tips, ideas and reviews @one.more.step.along.the.world Vegetarian options: There's a whole vegan menu Dietary restrictions: They do gluten free Kid-friendliness: Ok for kids Wheelchair accessibility: Ok for wheelchair users
DIRTY! BROWN SLIMEY ROCK FISH! EVERYTHING WAS SLIMY! SCRAPS OF UNDERCOOKED CHIPS. WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THIS PLACE EVER AGAIN THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN!! DELIVEROO FAIL TO REFUND!
Every Friday I use this fish and chip shop… it’s so busy like Clapham Junction Station. I usually get it delivered! Today I was nearby and decided to pick it up myself! It was not too busy about 5.30pm… within 10 minutes I got my order of kids fish and chips twice! Great I thought until I served it! It appeared to be more batter than fish and the edge of the potato… so very crispy! No potatoes or fat chips! Very disappointing today! Usually they get it right! Maybe they put on a better impression for those of us who usually have it delivered?
So good!! The batter is perfect and the curry sauce and tartar sauce with both greatFood: 5/5
I've only put 4 stars on service as it took nearly twice as long to get the food from what I was told 18 actual 10 minutes told and it wasn't as busy as other times. The food is great, but by now you already know this. Overall still 5 stars.
Hands down best fish and chips I’ve had in London. Grilled options and plenty of fish varieties on the menu, solid curry sauce too. Service is speedy despite always being busy. They’ve got the workflow down to a tee.Food: 5/5
Awesome fish n chips!! I wasn’t expecting half a cod, but there it was. Their homemade tartar sauce was TO DIE for. Will be returning the next time I’m in London. :Food: 5/5
I have been hard pushed to find a competitor for the 3 fish and chip shops I loved as a child which is why I travelled from Anerley to Brockley to see if this fish and chip shop was worthy of being shortlisted for the best fish and chip award shortlist. Yes they were and it seems they had other awards too. I can't say they were as good as my childhood fish and chips but they were definitely better than a majority of fish and chips I have tasted in London. The haddock was absolutely exquisite, the batter truly is something else. So full of flavour, so light, delicate and crispy and you can taste the oil but the oil is lovely too. The chips I felt had flavour more so than other chips but I felt they needed just a little something else to be great chips. The food is definitely good value for money and absolutely worth the price you pay both in terms of taste and portion size. The staff are working so hard, order afrer order comes in from the phone, from Deliveroo and also from an endless queue of people waiting to order not because the staff aren't fast but because the shop is so popular. The staff kept their cool and were very good at personalising our order on the fly. I think this business is going to have to expand because we also would have loved to sit down to eat ours and we ended up sitting in the car. Vegetarian options: They specifically offer vegan versions.
Purchased fish and chips recently following reading reviews. Disappointed that the chips do not match the quality of Belgium fries, good British style chips. This shop is supposed to be one of the best in London and probably is, I expected a Belgium friterie in Brockley. At least the shop has not been converted to a pizza joint. Will continue to use as this is probably as good as it gets in London. I
Busy atmosphere but very systematic. The hake is fresh and grilled to perfection. You can request any fish to be grilled. It's worth the wait. Portions are good and the quality is even better. It's not a hidden gem because everyone in Brockley is usually here on a Friday and the weekend! Most importantly service is really goodFood: 5/5
