What a nicely presented station! It has quite an old feel to it, but the flowers all scattered about makes it look far more like somewhere you want to be, as opposed to many other train stations where its just a case of staring a brick walls...! We had a long conversation about where platforms 1, 2 and 3 might be - before eventually goggling the answer...! Trains were all running to time etc. which was also a pleasant surprise!
Had not visited Bridlington for some years having lived abroad for 12 years and my wife had never been. I now remember why I never used to go there! Arrived by train for a day out and eventually found our way to the town and seafront. It was a lovely day for a walk along the promenade to work up an appetite for a fish and chip lunch. Unfortunately after trying 5 different cafe/restaurants, not one had any cod. The reason was apparently that they all sold out over the bank holiday weekend. Bearing in mind this was a Friday after said holiday. We tried a seafood snack bar where my wife half enjoyed a mixed seafood platter which, apart from the lobster part, she said was pretty tasteless. As I am not a big lover of seafood I settled for a small £5 pot of prawns. The supposed rose-marie sauce was some tasteless white sauce which complemented the tasteless prawns which tasted like rubber. I will say that only the roast meat sandwich bar and the ice cream parlour a couple of doors away, saved the whole days experience. Roast pork, stuffing could do to be baked a bit and apple sauce was delicious. The ice cream parlour had a myriad of flavours with 2 scoops in a tub costing £5 but Maltesers ice cream and jaffa cake ice cream were an absolute delight. Jaffa cake ice cream is now my favourite, taken over from charcoal ice cream in the Philippines. I think I will leave it another 15+ years before venturing here again
Bridlington is the best seaside on the east coast plenty to do but not too many arcades on the front brilliant for the people who want a quiet place as well as entertaining for the kids the beach is clean and dogs are welcome on the beach just outside the town areas and nearly all the pubs and cafes are dog and child friendly making it the perfect place
I'm a train enthusiast and I do love bridlington train station, always clean and flowers are watered-down by the ticket person... the only thing is the toilets close at 17:30 but everything else is perfect.
A lovely station with great staff. The addition of the Barrow Boy statue on the concourse is wonderful. The pretty floral displays are a joy to see. You can tell lots of history has taken place here.
