This is, or was, a beautiful place but the traffic clogging up the streets it's awful. You can hardly walk around, the noise of traffic, the fumes all spoil the once stunning little town. The architecture is so nice, so my advice is look up and try to blur out the traffic horror going on around you.
Traffic still very busy at peak times. New bus D1x making trips to Bath faster..use most days. New start up café and bakery worth a visit. Good range of pubs and public parks.. easy access to canal for walking and bike rides.
Lovely station that has two platforms. Trains towards Bath,Bristol and Cardiff on platform 1 and platform 2 goes towards Westbury, Frome and Salisbury. Managed by GWR. This does have free parking for about 6 cars but this appears not to be managed and used by people to go shopping instead. Large pay and display car park next to station.nStaff friendly and the volunteers keep the station grounds look nice. Both sides of the platform have disabled access
This is an old railway station. It has I two platforms. Electronic displays indicate clearly trains and platforms.nClean, tidy and we'll maintained platform and buildings.nnGood spot to jump on train and explore area.nnAccessibility for wheelchair/ disability both platforms . If your heading Bath direction which is opposite station to main entrance. You will need to access via Barton close, sign posted as it does not require steep, up and down stairs and bridge.nnStation opened with member of staff 6:30 A.m to 1:30 daily, Monday to Saturday. I met an incredible helpful and knowledgeable station master called Maggie. Super helpful. Great customer service skills.nTickets sold/ information available.nnTicket machine self service outside for tickets when closed. People I spoke to said it was not very reliable.nnAny train boarded will be happy issue tickets if machine faulty.nn30 minutes customer parking outside/ drop of point.nnLarge pay and display carpark available for longer parking just by Railway station.nnTaxi rank/ kiosk just outside main entrance of the station.nnToilets at this carpark. Just a short distance from train station.nnWaiting rooms open when ticket office open.nnPlatforms have seats and are partially covered.nnTelephone kiosk on station.
We just had lunch rather than staying at the hotel. It was delicious, the portions were just right and the service was attentive and friendly.
