I love hiring boats for an hour or two, because of the serenity on the lake. It's so restful and looking at the hills and mountains on one side of the lake and passing by the lovely houses on the other side.

Highly recommend this on a nice day. You have to book in advance via phone if it’s a busy period and I’d say ring a day before arriving. They give you a quick safety guide and you’re on your way. The boats are to high standard and the buoys are easy to navigate. I’d recommend sticking to the middle of the lake so your not avoiding the ferries the whole trip. It takes 1 hr to go all the way north to Ambleside none stop. If you plan to do this with some time to stop and eat in the water I’d recommend 3 hrs. £40 deposit has to be guaranteed with your card as well as paying up front on the phone. To the owners I’d recommend online booking.

Any Lake swimmers? These are your guys for a backup boat. Very helpful when we wanted an early start and provided lifejackets for the crew. Quick dropoff at the end of the day too when we were shattered, good lads working there.

Best place to hire Victorian row boats. However the experience is somewhat marred by the approach of the staff.
