Great castle, great grounds be aware currently £3 parking charge which is knocked off your admission when you enter so take change with you. The castle and grounds are beautiful makes you wonder how they coped in such a big place without central heating in the winter. The cafe serves nice food, however the cafe seems to be undecided on it's identity, the decor is typical tea room, plastic table cloth uncomfortable seats but the food is trying to be upmarket, 5 chips served on a slate plate served 45mins after ordering at bordering on restaurant prices. The cafe is freezing early spring (you can see your breath) and food served on a slate goes stone cold before you have eaten it. Personally I won't be using the cafe again if I go.

Loved this castle. An interesting combination of ruined and occupied with archery and a brilliant falconry display makes it a great family day out. Hillside location with great views and pleasant garden. Nice tea rooms and friendly staff. Quirky room displays including one with dress up and have a go writing quills. Particularly liked the possessed bed!

Fun family day out, the activities included were fun, the kids enjoyed having a go at archery. The food in the tea room was nice.

Visited as part of a group tour. It was interesting walking through the castle especially during the Renaissance Festival. This added flair to what would've been just another boring castle tour. Nice to know Mary, Queen of Scots lived there for sometime. Overall, an educational enjoyment.
