I understand experiences are different to each person, but I truly don't understand why this place has such low reviews. This is going to be an in-depth account of my personal experiences, in case there's anyone browsing and put off by the low reviews. TL;DR: I am genuinely amazed with how quickly I have moved along in recovery and its mainly down to the support from staff at Opcare. I have been under the physio, prosthetic & orthotics care while I've been here. Covered most bases, if not all. Only issue was the waiting time to be seen for the first physio session but that's not entirely Opcare's fault. So first things first. While in hospital, my hospital appointed Occupational therapist contacted Opcare for a customised wheelchair, it was in the hospital with me when I left. Perfectly fitted and with the specialised attachments I required. The receptionists weathered my dumb questions via the phone many times while I was waiting for appointments initially, and when it came to meeting them in person, they were so SO friendly, always welcoming and helpful when asking said dumb questions. Also, because I'm such an incredibly anxious and impatient person, I sent emails to the prosthetics team asking for advice e.g. what not to do, what exercises I could do while bedbound BEFORE I was actually discharged from the surgical ward in the hospital. I wasn't even under their care yet and they sent me loads of helpful information, exercises, and a warning to not do too much before my body healed. The only ''issue'' I've had with Opcare was the time from my initial hospital discharge to my first physio appointment. It was longer wait than I thought it would be. But that was both due to my Surgical team not putting the steps in place hospitals fault, and also understaffing. But the NHS & all health care providers are being battered at the moment, so I'm not surprised. And in my case it actually worked out, because my wound didn't heal very quickly, so it kind of evens out, again personal experience I was handed over to Opcare a couple of months after my amputation. The physios helped me from moving from a wheelchair to standing, then from standing to walking. Throughout that they set me 'Homework'. Exercises to do at home to restrengthen muscles and build endurance, they also provided equipment for me to do this at home. e.g. stretchy bands. Its a person to person thing but I've learnt a lot being disabled most of my life. If you don't keep up with the exercises at home, you will NOT advance as fast as you planed/hoped. The prosthetics team then came to talk and introduce me to different types of legs to look at and get a feel for. This was in between physio appointments. They talked me through the entire process, allowed me to look at every component and explained why it was useful/why different things weren't suitable for me. Always full of knowledge and welcomed all questions. 'No questions are stupid questions this will be with you for the rest of your life, we want to get it right'. The staff are forever trying their best to help, for example: I was in a physio appointment and the prosthetist wandered in to take another measurement, just to double check, and together they had a chat with me about my remaining 'meat foot' and how it looked like it was struggling. So they made me an appointment with the orthotics department there and then. A week later I've seen the orthotics department, and had a cast taken of said 'meat foot'. I've nearly written a book here, but to finish off, I was initially put off by the reviews, which again is now surprising to me, but its very local so I took the 'plunge', and it turned out not to be a plunge at all. I was thinking oceanic waters deep of a plunge, turns out it was barely a drop of water. I cannot recommend this place enough, their staff are brilliant and so incredibly helpful. Don't let the bad reviews put you off, like I nearly was. They genuinely CARE about my wellbeing. Google is cutting me off now haha
Everytime I've been here the staff are friendly and helpful. They've always helped me with what I need for my son Very satisfied. My wheelchair collapsed and within two days I had a brand new chair with a very lovely young man that helped me cannot be more grateful Thanks so so much
I would give Opcare 0 stars but it won’t let me.. I was sent to them by my surgeon ages ago for a hinged wrap over knee brace.. They keep saying this is what they will send me, but 5 times now they have sent tubular knee supports with no hinge! The last time I went to fix this issue they said they would make a “made to measure” wrap over knee brace with a hinge and 4 straps. I have today received another tubular knee strap that does not wrap over, has no hinge and only 2 straps.. the incompetence of this company is mind blowing!!!!
My wheelchair collapsed 2 weeks ago No replaced has been sorted. I'm stuck in home now
I was asked to drop off a piece of equipment for my son fir a few tweaks. The orthotist technician said to drop it off at 13.oo on a specified day. I asked if I should wait, or come back, she said it was up to me, but it would only take about 20 minutes to complete. I duly dropped it off at 12.50, went to Makro for some shopping and returned at 13.30. It hadn't been picked up from reception. The receeptionist told me to wI wouldhave some idea of how long it would be. he ordered me out of the building, and proceeded to become very abusive and accused me of bawling off and shouting and becomin agressive! I was NOT!. I eventually returned home. only to receive a phone call from the same receptionist to tell me that the piece of equipment was ready and the technician wanted me to know that she had worked through her lunch break in order to complete it. He varried on and on. When he called back and my hyusband answered the phone, he took a completely different tack! The customer and other service have completely fallen by the wayside, since Opcare took over! Terrible! If we had any other choice of service provider, we would take it!!!!
Basically told to go private and try them first....... A full time carer on £69/ week isn't on doctors salary, so can't afford to pay privately for treatment...... Wish I could claim back all the national insurance I've paid over my life in full time employment..... Then I could afford to go private. Waste of time being referred to them
Great experience every time and very helpful staff. Prosthetics team have always been helpful and efficient and my sockets great. Ive never have an issue ringing in and arranging appointments like some reviewers have had? Thank you for helping me!
My mother has really just been cast aside. She's desperate for some shoes, unable to purchase any in the shops that are suitable. Has been given insoles for a pair she's had for 10 years which are falling apart. I know they're capable of helping but they don't seem to care about immobile cancer sufferer who just wants to be able to walk.
I am SHOCKED this has such low reviews, have attended this centre for several years for wheelchair services, kafos, physio, even therapy. OUTSTANDING!! I would be lost without them. Very thankful to ALL working parts of this centre. Lovely staff members too.
Really good service. Given appointment very quickly & once it was decided what chair I would get, it was delivered within the 8 weeks.
