Amazing day out. We spent all day here, there was loads to see and learn about. The staff are more than just dressed the part, they are well informed, and seem to love sharing their history with tourists. Would definitely visit again!
This place is a real experience with lots to do for all ages. The staff, actors and demonstrations really help to bring the place to life, their enthusiasm shines through. I loved the way you could literally walk anywhere, through back yards, upstairs and downstairs in the houses etc. Easy to spend the whole day, especially if combined with the canal boat cavern tour separate company to the museum. Very professionally run. The only small downside to our visit was the large amount of building work going on for their new area. But it didn't ruin our experience. Highly recommended.
Great insight into how thing were in the local area over a century ago. The Black Country was at the heart of the industrial revolution because of it's richness in mineral resources, and this permanent exhibition keeps that history alive. The workers acting out roles are great, and the explanations of how things were used or done are very detailed. It's a great day out for those with very inquisitive children. The fish & chips from Hobbs & Sons restaurant are delicious. Cooked in beef dripping, but vegetarian chips are also available. It's a must to try some of the Ales in the Bottle & Glass Inn. I paid £50 for my family of 4 for our first visit, and was then able to use the unchained pass to visit multiple times for free for a year. This came in handy because our first visit was during covid restrictions, so the quality was impacted. It's £3.50 to use the car park, and you pay this to buy a token from the gift shop which you use when exiting.
An absolute pleasure visiting today. Pricing is reasonable. It was extra special due to the jubilee. Meeting Queen Victoria was great. Only an actor but she displayed real regal presence. There's some real major works going on but does not distract from the remainder of the existing attractions. Staff are amazing. They get into real character and their knowledge is incredible. They take it all in their stride. Such dedication. This place is amazing and with the new builds going on, bringing the site into the 60's they are future proofing the whole area. A jewel in the heart of the proud people of the Black Country.
We booked for the Santa hunt and what a great day we had. Dave was our excellent guide who was hilarious and entertaining throughout and made my son and daughters day. Also all of the other characters were great especially the blacksmith. Finished our visit off with a bag of fish and chips. Popped into the cake shop and then enjoyed a pint of mild and mulled wine in the pub. Thank you again for a well organised day
A surreal experience! Spent a few hours here walking around the grounds in and out of historic looking shops and houses. There’s staff on-site dressed up acting, along with places to eat and an old fashioned pub to drink at. The chip shop is worth eating at if you can bare to wait in the queue! It looks like they’re expanding all the time so it’s a place worth re-visiting in the future! Definitely a worth while visit!
Excellent day out! Entry is around £19 but does give you 1 year of unlimited entry. Parking is £3.50 for a whole day but you could easily park for free near the cinema which is a 10min walk. The whole village is massive and it took us over 4h to see it fully. There is a free bus journey that you can take as many times as you want on a set route. There is a variety of shops to explore with lots of interesting objects of day to day life. Some shops have staff that explain a bit of the history, other shops are empty and just to walk through and peruse. There is a fish & chip shop where you can purchase a large portion for £8.50 it is very tasty and filling, there is a sweet shop where hard boiled sweets can be purchased, a couple of pubs where you can buy alcohol, a chocolate shop and a cake/biscuit shop. Card and cash are accepted throughout. There is a chain making demonstration which is very interesting with option for asking questions. Also a walking tour is provided, however we didn’t keep up with it as it was too difficult to hear the tour guide, they seemed very knowledgable but really needed some kind of microphone. There is a cinema which shows short films regularly about 10-15min shows of old films. Would recommend.
What an absolutely beautiful time capsule! It's like stepping right back in time, people from every era are busy going about their day but never fail to stay welcoming. We loved the interactive elements such as the school and the serving chip shops/pub as well, all very informative. Would definitely love to come back sometime!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
This is our second visit back to the Black Country Living Museum as we brought a family ticket that then allows free entrance for 12 months. It was certainly worthy of a second visit as there really is so much to see. It very much is a living museum and it is History brought to life in front of yours eyes. We arrived in the afternoon and it was pleasing that the Traditional Fish and Chip Bar had very little queue as we were keen to sample the highly rated food. We were not disappointed! They were tasty and excellent. There is lots to see and do and it is especially interesting as well to children as part of learning about British History. Child and adult alike will enjoy this experience as you can not only see what living was like during the time but smell it and touch it essentially bringing your own imagination to life. Accessibility is good and adequate very clean toilet facilities. If History is your thing I cannot see people being disappointed. We will be using our pass to come back again.
This is a great outdoor museum! Really enjoyed my visit, it’s was great to see how life was back in 1900’s, 30’s and further back. Also the Pit and Miners section was interesting and all the staff played the parts excellently. There is lots of old cars, bikes and buses the buses actually run if you don’t want to walk to see. Also I’d highly recommend trying the Fish &Chips and calling into the pubs for a drink even a soft drink but there is also lots of picnic tables if you want to bring your own lunch. I personally thought that it’s great value for money, the tickets was just under £20 but on entry I told to keep my ticket and it will get me unlimited entry for the next year and I will be back. Parking is only £3.50 for the day so you can spend as long as you want and not worry about car parking charges. I can’t wait to go back and see the new 40’s 50’s and 60’s streets that are currently under construction. If you love history then this is a must for you!
