Absolutely one of our favourite cafes in Clapham! Coffee is fantastic, love the food, especially the bocaditos, and the staff are always friendly! What more can you ask for! Note: I already had a sip from the coffee before I took the photo too impatient, so if you want to critique the coffee art, that is my fault!
My husband and I visited the Birdhouse on the 1st of April, 2023 - It was a brisk day. We live in the Caribbean, so walking around in this 5 degree weather was chilly and refreshing. Our first stop for the day was this lovely café, with yellow dishes and accents throughout. We were sat in the back–it was so cozy! We sipped on our cappuccinos and waited patiently for an avocado toast to share. The only bad thing I have to say is that we didn't order two, because it was pretty dang good, but, we did plan to eat our way through Clapham that day, so, sharing was a must that morning! Staff was pleasant - I'd for sure return for a morning coffee if I'm ever back in London/Clapham area again! I have to say some of the negative comments in Google reviews make me giggle. People complaining about their dogs not being allowed, almond milk separating It does, all the time, no matter how fresh... or their kids having to sit on their lap What did anyone ever do without prams or highchairs back then?! The café is tiny, so house rules must apply and we, as guests, must respect them in order for the day to flow. Lastly, humans can make mistakes, and some of these negative reviews I believe shouldn't even count for their star rating, because it's just cranky people not getting their way. Cheers Birdhouse!
Overpriced for what you get. No baked eggs for a Saturday brunch, it seems they were already precooked, this is why they run out. The guys working in the cafe work by the book, not flexible at all to change an ingredient with another. For example we asked to change the runny eggs by menu with scrambled eggs on the toast… and the answer has been NO. Maybe it’s not their fault but the management.
The place is such an immaculate vibe accidental renaissance, the staff is so kind and approachable, I absolutely loved the food. I stayed quite a while, as I had time to kill, waiting for a train, the place was inspiring, and they didn't mind me taking my watercolours out while sipping my coffee. Absolutely loved it!Food: 5/5
One of my absolute FAVOURITE cafes! I make it a point to stop by everytime I'm in the area. 10/10 coffee and food, lovely and friendly staff, also really love the ambience! Already looking forward to my next visit.Food: 5/5
Proper jobs worth. Was having a real nightmare morning desperately trying to find a bathroom, Politely asked to use their bathroom as no where else had one available/working. Bloke with long hair said no it’s customers only. I mean seriously what year is it. Shame because if polite and helped me I would have bought something/come back in the future as I work nearby but now I will use coffee shop down the road as they were lovely and help me. Amazing what friendliness/lack of can do for future purchases
Was here on a business trip on my own during winter and managed to stay an hour, working away and enjoying a lovely flat white and avocado on toast. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: Option on the menu, they can accommodate for food allergies
Loved the Mocha and Banana bread when I came to visit. The yellow coffee cups are so cute too. All these and the cheerful staff makes it worth a second visit for sure :
