The rampart area is great with free parking nearby. It's a good walk with wonderful views and lovely looking houses.nWhat let's the town down is its amenities. We didn't see any nice cafes or pubs, and it looks like everything needs a good scrub! Buildings are grubby and decaying, and that's before they were caked in seagull poo!nWe were disappointed to be honest.
Very nice to walk around Berwick over the ramparts. Beautifull views all around the city.

The castle was commissioned by the Scottish King David I in the 1120. After that its been taken by many kings and English forces then last at the end castle finally fell into English hands in the last week of August 1482, when Richard, Duke of Gloucester captured the castle.nIn 1847 the Great Hall of Berwick Castle was demolished to make way for Berwick upon Tweed railway station.
Lovely views and walks. Not much left of the castle because it was partially demolished long ago to build the station! Walked around on top of the town’s fortifications - care with children as no barriers - then along the river past the 3 bridges. Good info boards on the history of the bridges and town. It IS possible to go inside the town hall in Marygate but we thought it was open 10.30 to 2pm whereas those are the guided tour times so, after going to the top floor to see the old council chamber and one time prison, we were rudely chucked out by a man. We said we just wanted a Quick Look to which he replied “You’ve had one so you can go now!” He could have politely explained…
