About

The Perfect Location, For Any Occasion.

Story

The Berry Head Hotel is situated in what must be one of the most beautiful locations anywhere in the world. combine that with a blend of personal service and friendly staff who are totally focused on the needs of their guests and you find an unique charm and atmosphere.

the house was built between 1801 and 1809 as a military hospital serving the Napoleonic Forts at Berry Head. From 1833 until his death in 1847 it was occupied by Henry Francis Lyte and his family, and it was here that he wrote the famous hymn "Abide with Me" just four months before his death, inspired by his surroundings and the magnificent views.

the grounds were worked on by French prisoners of were who were given temporary shelter by Lyte after they were shipwrecked en-route to imprisonment. you will notice many trees, plants and Herbs introduced during this time by reverend lyte from his visits abroad. today the house retains much of its original charm nestling at the waters edge overlooking some of the finest sea and coastal views in the world. its six acres of private grounds and woodland adjoin the berry head country park, originally part of the estate and now owned by national trust. the park which can be accessed from the grounds offers a ramblers paradise with miles of coastal paths along the dramatic and unspoiled coastline to the river dart and beyond, with small coves, rare wild flowers and the multitude of sea birds which find sanctuary in the cliffs.

Nice hotel right on the coast overlooking the bay. The hotel was originally built as a Napoleonic hospital and so has some nice history. There is plenty of parking close to the hotel and the facilities looked good. Food was nice and the bar had plenty of choice.

Lovely setting with stunning sunset views over Torbay. Polite reasonably attentive staff. My salt n pepper squid was excellent but my friends meals were spoilt by their chips which weren't freshly cooked and were cold. Politely pointed this out to no avail. Well not be rushing back.

Really nice views! Comfortable saloon and dinning room opened to everyone and dog friendly! There is also an exterior terrace with blankets provided in case you feel too cold.

Nice grounds and good facilities. We have had cause to visit a few times and have been pretty impressed. This was a beautiful venue for a wedding reception and we had a great night. Visiting the pool with the family was also a pleasure and reasonably priced. The pool also has a jacuzzi, sauna, bubble jets and a small waterfall that my son loved playing in. Recommended.
