We had a voucher for 50% off main meals so we booked a table. We visited and was greeted by the very friendly staff, from the waitress to the barman. Even though it was Saturday evening we had a choice of tables to sit at. Nice choice on the menu and reasonable prices. Myself and wife chose the half roast chicken, but unfortunately they had no stock. So we opted instead for the smothered chicken melt. The food arrived in good time, was hot and tasted very nice. I had cheesecake and my wife had the apple and blackberry crumble for dessert. Prices were very reasonable and even much better with our 50% off mains voucher. I wouldn't hesitate to give it 5 stars, however what let it down was food left on the floor under the tables. Apart from that it was very good. We will be back.
Very nice place to dine in. Excellent food and service. Could add a bit more options for vegetarians. I would recommend!!!Food: 5/5
As a vegan, I was impressed with the amount of choice on offer, and although when the food came out, my meal paled in comparison to the meat based equivalent , I still appreciated the effort to offer more than the standard fare. The service was slow to start with, waiting 20 minutes to be offered a drink and then it was only because we asked a passing member of the service staff. Another member of staff angrily shouted for some of the other servers to giver her a hand which was an odd but entertaining touch. The people I dined with all said their meals were good Vegetarian options: Good selection
A relatives anniversary get together in the room to the side of the main dining. The event and waiters were fine. Wine and drinks were quite pleasant, BUT. The meals were absolutely dire. It's the first time in my 70 plus years that I've ended up leaving the majority of my meal, had I been dining on our own, I would have requested my money back and left, but obviously didn't want to spoil the occasion for the others by making a fuss. Almost all the vegetables on the plate were soggy and rubbery and cool. The quantity and variety of vegetables was extreme too, meaning I had a massive plate full of food at the end. The meat on my plate was edible, that's about all I can say about that. We used to go there many years ago when it was Tarry's, this was our first time as the Turnpike since we moved away some time ago. Certainly won't be returning. If the quality of food is normally like this I'm surprised they are still in business.
Stayed at the Premier Inn and had a meal deal booked as part of the reservation. First night was great. Service and food was beyond expectations. Second night a different experience. Waited quite a while for the ‘host’ to come to the host point for me to be seated. Although I’d booked, it seemed too much trouble to sort a table in the main dining area and I was directed to the main bar area to eat. Not sure if it was where I was seated but food took much longer to arrive than the first night when I was as seated in the main dining area. Although the food on the first visit was really good the food on the second visit was not the greatest and the service was haphazard and inconsistent. Appreciate I was JUST a customer from the Premier Inn with a meal voucher, but still a customer.
Stayed at the premier Inn next door so the obvious solution was to use the beefeater the first night I had lasagna which was perfectly acceptable. However, the second night the menu had changed on that day and I opted for a glazed steak. The steak was not cooked as requested and I could not taste any of the glaze that had been put on it and it also came with 13 chips, yes I counted, which I feel was not a sufficient portion for the cost. At no point during my two meals was I asked if the meal was ok. So for the second meal I stopped eating and went and contacted the manager regarding the quality of what had been served and whilst he was very apologetic I insisted that no food would be wasted and ate the food as was presented. I also witnessed a member of staff berate, a younger member of staff whilst stood in the public area, which I thought was very unprofessional and also blocked people from accessing around her as she enforced her dominance on the younger member of staff.
Booked for a Sunday afternoon. Ordered roast dinners only to be told that they had run out. My 9 month old son needed changing. Baby changing was out of order and although there were many other toilets, none of them had baby changing facilities so we had to use the out of order one. Upon entering the toilet was full up with water and leaking onto the floor. Had no choice but to change my baby in this disgusting environment. Otherwise good was acceptable although card machine wasn't working and rejected the payment card twice. For such a large pub, having only 1 baby changing toilet isn't acceptable
Really quite awful experience. My family and I 5 of us visited this restaurant for my brothers birthday, pre booking to ensure we got a table. On entering, the place was relatively quiet, with only around 6-8 other patrons. In spite of ordering quite quickly, it took around 45 minutes for our starters to arrive and again for our mains several of the mains were visible on the collection point for at least 15 minutes but obviously we wanted to wait to eat together so we did not raise this with the restaurant. Most of the food was good, other than a tiny starter which the waitress commented on and said she had already requested a bigger portion and a pasta dish which was substantially burnt. After finishing the food and asking for the bill, we were in the restaurant for over two hours, which considering how quiet the restaurant was, seemed quite excessive. Subsequent to the visit, the majority of my family and I were unwell with upset stomach’s and vomiting, which considering we are from three separate households and hadn’t eaten food collectively from anywhere else, can only be attributed to this restaurant. The only ‘saving grace’ in the whole experience was the waitress who was friendly, communicative and apologetic considering the delays and took time out to converse with us, even though she was seemingly the only waiter/waitress working.
Very bad experience will not return, to start first pint not good tasted as if pipes have not been cleaned in a while. Starter said chicken legs more like sparrow legs 4 for 4.99. Mains ribs well over cooked and dry, didn't taste good. Second pint served in wrong glass flat. Needless to say never going again
Lovey hot food and very quick friendly service. Thank you Parking: Loads however shared with premier
